TESU quietly raised the residency waiver fee on us by $500...
#31
Ladyplf Wrote:I am almost done but may need a course or two more since I am doing a BA and a ASBA. I just got an email saying TESU will now charge a fee for credit card payments too. They must have a budget crunch. I understand they are a business so I guess we can take our business elsewhere if too many changes occur. It is just that I am too far in now.

I don't think I have to pay a residency fee since most of my courses were online or guided study. But my final courses may be a tecep or one study.com. I wish study.com was available for credit when I started, I would have used them and saves myself some time and money. I love the video format and have used it to study for many of my TESU courses and exams.

If you have taken 16 (non-TECEP) credits through TESU then you probably won't have a residency fee, but you will want to double check with them so you will know for sure. Credit Hour Residency FAQs

Here is the email TESU sent to me from the Bursar's Office:

We have billed your account the $1,800 Residency Waiver Fee. Please note that after April 1st students will be charge a convenience fee for using a card to pay a balance. Also the rates for Study.com students will not be going up for the Residency Waiver Fee on April 1st. Payment can be made at the University's payment site.
The payment site is found at this link.

I am going to go ahead and pay today to get that out of the way and avoid any potential surprises. It looks like the rate will stay the same but I wasn't sure if they meant they are still applying the 10% discount or if the rate is still $1800. It sounds like others have talked to them and the consensus is that its still $1800.

Can someone clarify for me what I would pay right now if I registered? I'm less than 20 credits in and don't expect to be done within a year... I am on the study.com scholarship... What should I do?

Can you get a Study.com affiliate tuition rate if you have already applied? Maybe my sister should earn some credits first and then register later? She has an almost associate degree, just short one credit from a community college, and is waiting for her evaluation from Thomas Edison. Then we will plan her course to a BA in Liberal Studies.

Yeah I got a reply today too saying the Study.com Affiliation will remain at $1800.

Quote:Please disregard the notice your received as the rate for Study.com students will not be going up as of April 1st. We not too sure as to when it will be going up as of yet since we are not sure when the Study.com contract is due to renew but it will not be going up on April 1st and will stay at $1,800.

Have a good day.

So they don't know when it will end, but I'm hoping they'll at least give proper notice. Those typos though haha.

Ok thanks. What does she have to do? Is it for anybody who takes a course and exam on Study.com for credit?

Study.com Wrote:Hi Everyone-

We are sorry for all the confusion! Due to our partnership with TESU, Study.com members can still take advantage of the special price of $1800 on the residency waiver fee. This price will remain the same for Study.com affiliate members despite the increase in price to $2500.

Best,
The Study.com Team

Just for clarification in case someone else is unsure (I was afraid this had changed). TECEPs DO count toward the residency requirement if taken by May 2016 Term.

From my eval: For students enrolled in the Per Credit Tuition Plan at Thomas Edison State University PRIOR to April 1, 2016, credit earned via TECEP and Prior Learning Assessment can be used to satisfy the residency requirement as long as it was earned as of or before the May 2016 term. For students who enroll in the Per Credit Tuition Plan as of April 1, 2016 or after, only Online, Guided Study or e-Pack credit satisfies the residency requirement.
