Can you help me plan my degree path?
#71
In July 2015 TESU made major changes to the BA CJ degree. The CJ AOS requires 39 courses plus the 3 credit capstone course, leaving only 18 credits in free electives. BA in liberal studies has 27 credits in the free elective section. The BA CJ degree is very much doable, you just won't be able to use as many previous credits. TESU made changes to the liberal studies degree so there is now an option for a BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Criminal Justice.

You should get the CJ AOS courses preapproved by TESU. Just make sure you have the 15 UL credits that are required in the AOS. Penn Foster courses are also an option if they are ACE recommended for credit. The Penn Foster courses are self paced courses and sometimes require papers, discussion board assignments, and proctored exam but each course varies (some are similar to straighterline but other courses are similar to a college course but self paced) Propero and CSU Global CBE are probably the easier options for CJ credits.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm still just a little bugged that there's no way to shoehorn all that other credit into this degree plan.

I don't want a degree that says liberal studies.

ALEKS ACE approval is about to expire.

What is the difference between the ALEKS intermediate algebra, and the one I took at the community college?

Shawn Holliday told me that you can only transfer in 90 period. See above:

I'm gonna try and PLA out of as much of the upper level stuff as I can.

What are the odds of using that fire safety education and Human Resources Management as my Info Lit requirement?

What's the reason for that? There is a lot more room in free electives for BA.LS so it should be a pretty good reason if your original intent was to use the degree as an employment checkbox. Also, TESU Heavin BA diplomas don't list the area of study anyway. It's only on the transcript.

Regarding the math, it is all about the prefix.

Since your credits have a DEV prefix, that means that *the school you previously attended* did not consider them to be college level. They counted as developmental hours and did not count toward your degree plan. You would have had to take a higher level of math to complete that degree.

Given that your previous school said these classes were not college-level material, TESU cannot decide to take them as a math hours. It is one thing to accept one school's LIT hours as ENG for English (or CRJT as AOJ) because they were considered college level by the original institution. However, when that school specifically states that they are not worth college math credit by giving them a developmental prefix, it is not in TESU's purview to change their level.

Now go get your ALEKS Intermediate Algebra and Stats before that opportunity expires!

I looked for the embarassed icon. Because I... don't want it to say Liberal anything. I wanted it to say Public Safety management- that's pretty self-explanatory. Currently, I *thought* it would say Criminal Justice - not a popular degree, but also needs no explanation.

But I am going to have issues with the people of my culture if I have to say that I am a liberal studies major. (shrugs) :p

I got a email from them. The diplomas do in fact only say BACHELOR OF SCIENCE / BACHELOR OF ARTS.

sigh

I suppose if the liberal studies won't go on the diploma, and apparently, using their plug-n-chug tool it uses more of my credits up, that is probably the route I shall go.

I have a phone appointment set up; earliest they can shoehorn me in is Thursday.

The people that answer emails won't tell me if they will accept Aleks Intermediate Algebra for either of these (or, apparently homeland security and emergency management). I signed up today. Do y'all feel pretty good they will accept it? I want to get started.

Thanks again!

If you look at the website, Intermediate Algebra (MAT-115) counts for Quantitative Literacy: Thomas Edison State University | General Education - 2016 or After

You don't have to sweat that the diploma only says Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences. The transcript lists the area of study, and you can list your degree with the area of study on your resume. I list "Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science" on my resume, and if anyone ever contacted TESU or asked for my transcript, it would confirm that. Georgia Tech certainly accepted my degree as a computer science degree.

Hi!

Thought I'd check in.

First, *THANK YOU* to all of your for your insight and comments. There is absolutely no way I'd be this far along without this site; of that I am positive.

I am less positive about what I need to do to complete, but it is taking shape.

Currently:

I ditched the counselor I was using, and this lady contacted me. She was/is incredibly helpful, and knocked down a lot of issues for me. :hurray:

I am a BA: Liberal Studies course person now.

Out of all my training and the credits I've earned, 57 apply. I lack 63 semester hours. I think? lol

I took aleks intermediate algebra; then I took about a month off. That one hurt. lol

I am currently beginning the TESU cornerstone course. It popped up like, yesterday? But I can't seem to get into there today, so I can't comment on what it's gonna look like or entail.

As soon as I see how my job and personal life line up, I am going to add a couple more courses to the mix.

First, I need to find something to slot into english comp II. I felt pretty good going into SL Comp I; it was hard for me, so I am looking for a low impact solution here.

Second, I need to find something to slot into information literacy, and diversity. I am thinking the marriage and the family TECEP. DSST still presents some scheduling and drive time issues for me.

Next, I am going to start poring through the list of things TESU will allow me to portfolio, and get the nice lady to see what will fit into the huge gaps I have left. If there aren't enough, then no point in taking their portfolio class. But I lack a buttload of electives, so I am hoping that portfolio stuff will round those gaping holes out.

At that point, I'll lift my head up and get my bearings again.

Thanks again!

Where do I start if I have absolutely no credits? Sorry I am new and this is my first post. I keep trying to search but still haven't found anything. This seems overwhelming!
