TESU Evaluation/Planning Assistance
#1
Hi guys. I applied to TESU a few months ago for a BA in Liberal Arts and received my academic evaluation. I finally have time to start knocking out courses so I'm hoping someone can help me choose which courses I can test out of. I am looking for the cheapest and quickest options if possible.

I have already taken and passed the free Ethics course from The Institutes and from my understanding based on my evaluation, I think I need 1 Lower Level Diversity course, 1 Lower Level Info Literature Course, 5 Upper Level Courses in my Area of Study, and the Cornerstone/Capstone courses to finish my degree. This is my plan as of right now:

LL Diversity= CLEP Introductory Sociology
LL Info Lit = CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
UL = DSST Organizational Behavior
UL = DSST History of The Vietnam War
UL = DSST History of the Soviet Union
UL = DSST Substance Abuse
UL = DSST Introduction to World Religions
Cornerstone/Capstone

Can someone take a look at my evaluation and let me know if I'm on the right track? Thanks so much!

I have on my notes (and they could be wrong) that the World Religions DSST exam is no longer UL. It now comes in as REL-277. The only one that's UL is SL now. Again, I could be wrong, so double-check on that.

Also, just want to let you know that there are other options available to take some of these:

Different option available:
Info Lit - Tech Writing DSST, Study.com, TECEP

Sociology - SL, Study.com, TECEP
Org Behavior (PSY-361) - SL, Study.com
History of the Vietnam War - Study.com

And additional UL courses available that you didn't list:
Business Comm (COM-300) - SL
Pathophysiology (BIO-316) - Study.com
Microbiology (BIO-351) - Study.com
Abnormal Psych (PSY-350) - Study.com, TECEP
Research Methods in Psych (PSY-322) - Study.com
Social Psych (PSY-370) - Study.com
Managerial Comm (MAN-373) - TECEP
Marketing Comm (MAR-321) - TECEP

This is the latest guide for TESU's DSST credit equivalencies. It lists World Religions as REL-277.

My bro took this DSST 5 years ago and we're wondering if they'll still count it LL since he took it before they downgraded it? Guess we'll find out when he applies...

TESU is quirkier (in a good way!) than EC and COSC about how it evaluates credits. The World Religions DSST got downgraded by ACE on 12/31/2015, so if your brother took it before then and TESU counts it as REL-277, he might try asking for a waiver based on the upper level ACE recommendation when he took it.

Thanks I'll tell him to try that!

Hey Guys,

First of all, I wanna thank everyone for all the help I've received. I couldn't do it without all of you so thank you all!

I took my first CLEP exam last weekend and I passed it with a 62! I took the Analyzing and Interpreting CLEP for my Info Lit Requirement.

So as of now, this is where I stand towards my BA in Liberal Studies from TESU:

LL Ethics= Free Ethics Course from The Institutes DONE
LL Diversity= CLEP Introductory Sociology IN PROGRESS
LL Info Lit = CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature DONE

UL = DSST Organizational Behavior NOT YET
UL = DSST History of The Vietnam War NOT YET
UL = DSST History of the Soviet Union NOT YET
UL = DSST Substance Abuse NOT YET
UL = DSST Undecided? NOT YET
Cornerstone/Capstone NOT YET

I am currently studying for my Diversity requirement; CLEP Intro Sociology. I will be taking this exam in about 2 weeks. But I have a couple questions that I hope someone can help me with. Thank you all once again!

1. I provided the TESU school code when I took my CLEP exam but I am unsure if my Academic Advisement on the TESU website will be updated automatically? If so, how long does that usually take?
2. I am pretty set on taking CLEP's or DSST's for my UL requirements because 110 dollars per test once a month is all I can manage currently. Are there any other cheaper options out there for Upper Level courses?

Thanks everyone once again!

First off Congrats on you CLEP pass!! Those always feel great. Also not sure if you are aware but the A & I Lit CLEP is worth 6 Credits at TESU. So 3 credits should drop into Gen Ed or Electives for you. If you selected TESU at the time of checkout they will receive the score, review the score then add it. No sure of the turn around at TESU for this but at my current school when I took and passed a CLEP on a Saturday lets call it the 14th. It was on my transcript in 12-13days. So 25th-26th range and it was automatic.

A cheap test that would fit in your plan is the TECEP for Abnormal Psychology.
Also, if money is really tight, you might consider applying for the Study.com Guardian scholarship.
Get Free Access to Study.com's College Accelerator Sponsored by Guardian | Study.com

You have to take Personal Finance as the first class, then you could get your upper levels for free by doing these classes:
Business 307: Leadership & Organizational Behavior/ TESU MAN-311 : Organizational Behavior (UL Social Science)
History 108: History of the Vietnam War/ TESU HIS-351 : A History of Vietnam War
Psychology 104: Social Psychology/ TESU PSY-370 : Social Psychology
Psychology 105: Research Methods in Psychology/ TESU PSY-322 : Research in Exp Psych
Psychology 106: Abnormal Psychology/ TESU PSY-350 : Abnormal Psychology

I am just sharing that you could do this, not endorsing this as a fabulous idea, because several people have been having trouble with Study.com of late. However, of you can get over the quirks you could save quite a bit of money.
