Finding Cheap or Free Credits Project
#31
Theological Research Institute offers what most of the other Jewish organizations offer as far as some Hebrew and Jewish culture courses. They also offer a couple of psychology courses. Tuition for a course is $450, but can be reduced to $300 with some tuition assistance program they have.

This is the website I found.
Theological Research Institute Ltd

In an email, I was told that they are now using this website.

It seems like Jewish studies organizations are pretty well represented in ACE or NCCRS. I wonder what makes these studies well suited for alternative credit, or what other background there is. It's pretty neat and interesting to me.

NCCRS was created by the State of New York, and New York has the largest Jewish population in the country.

I didn't realize they were NY based, that makes sense. They likely try to build relationships with local education/training providers, so you're probably on to something.

I didn't realize until about a couple of months ago that NCCRS is a government organization. They are part of the University of the State of New York. That's why they mention Excelsior's transcript service. Every college based in New York is part of the University of the State of New York under the New York State Education Department.

wasn't there something shady about Align Degree? Are they still around? Did it involve DreamDegree in some way, or am I mixing things up?

DreamDegree was a part of AlignDegree, but they did away with it before many people could get those free credits they were offering. I think only a couple of people on here were able to take any courses at all, and then couldn't even finish some of them. DreamDegree went away, and now it is some sort of adaptive learning app. They have a FB page, but have only posted on it once this year (June 1). Before that, they were posting pretty regularly before November 22 with the courses they were offering for free.

Now, they are doing business as LowCostGenEd.com, and raised their already high prices from $299 to $399, and seem to have let some courses expire, and added new courses. BUT, every course says "Enrollment for this course is currently closed" except for Intro to Logic.

Also, the courses they got rid of were ones that were harder to find elsewhere (Diversity & Multicultural Relationships, Intro to Mass Communication, Personal Leadership Development), and they've replaced them with things like Accounting I and Western Civ and Macroeconomics. Mostly courses you can find elsewhere for less than half the cost.

They can't seem to get their act together over there, so I would not recommend taking anything if it's at all possible to find a course for less somewhere else. Even then, I'm not sure I'd recommend them.

One of the guys who founded Dream Degree was known for buying up struggling, non-profit schools and turning them into for-profits. He's part of the crowd that was accused of "buying accreditation."
