TESU - BSBA question about upper level and lower level units
#1
I am pursing a BSBA CIS and I have a bunch of community college classes that are in the "business core" prerequisites @ thomas edison.

Classes I have completed from community college are Business communications, business law, Intro to business and intro to marketing and such...

I understand CIS Area of Specialization is a total of 18 credits, minimum of 12 upper level credits. Do the upper level also apply to business core? Or could I take all the business core classes at community college?

These are the requirements:

II. Professional Business Requirements 36
Financial Accounting(3)
Managerial Accounting(3)
Business Law(3)
Principles of Management(3)
Computer Concepts and Applications/Introduction to Computers/CIS(3)
Introduction to Marketing(3)
Principles of Finance(3)
Business in Society or International Management(3)
Macroeconomics(3)
Microeconomics(3)
Business/Managerial Communications(3)
Strategic Management

Thanks

You need 12 UL credits in the area of specialization, so that requirement does not apply to the business core. However, some of the business core requirements are automatically upper level, such as Intro to Marketing. Since your CC course will not be evaluated as MAR-301, I am not sure if TESU will fulfill the Marketing requirement with that course.

+1, Furthermore, your Strategic Management course is the capstone that can't be transferred in anymore. You would take the TECEP for it instead. I would suggest taking all the lower level requirements at the community college. Others that are upper level can be taken by following other options.

For the BSBA at TESU, there is no requirement that the Core courses are UL. I have some CC courses in there, they are just fine.

The only requirement is that 12cr of the AOS are UL. And the Strategic Management capstone will be UL (whether you take it as a TECEP or online through TESU). The entire rest of your degree could be entirely LL courses (although obviously you would max out on the number of CC credits you could bring in). But between CC and ACE, you could have 105cr of LL coursework.

I see you took the CLEPs for Management and Marketing. Do you know if a CC course in Intro or Principles of Marketing/Management will fulfill the management/marketing requirement?

Yes, those will count. There's nothing that says that any of the core courses are required to be UL. I actually talked to them when I took my Organizational Theory course at my local CC (a requirement for HR), they confirmed this. Only 4 AOS courses have to be UL.

I was more concerned about the codes rather than UL vs LL. They changed an organizational behavior course I took at a CC to HRM 299. I don't need organizational behavior, but if I did, I would be concerned about it counting as organizational behavior. I'm assuming they let it count for you even though the course is not coded as organizational behavior.

Organizational Theory/Development is a required course for the BSBA HR degree. I took it at the local CC here, and when I transferred it, they coded it as PSY-299. They initially did not put it in the right place, but when I contacted them and asked them to move it to that requirement, they did it immediately.

In the catalog (and on the web), it lists the names of the courses, but does not show the course number. So for instance Organizational Theory - it is listed as that, it does not say PSY-360 (the code for their course in the catalog) - and it does not say that it has to be UL. It just lists the course name.

Before I took the CLEP exams, I specifically asked TESU about taking Management and Marketing at my CC (they offer both), and they approved them. I took Managerial Communications and it listed as LL on my transcript. I've also done degree plans for people who took these core courses at a CC, and they were put in the correct place by TESU (I saw their transcripts).
