Those that give advice on this forum- do you stop and realize how much you actually
#1
help people? This is my thank you thread..I did a small one before but want to combine some of my first posts. so just looking back..I started a year ago. (kind of took longer then one would think based on how close I was) I'm the type of person that feels somewhat intimidated by the unknown...I'm relatively smart and once I start getting the grasp I want to be the master of it and realize it was silly to be intimidated by the subject of the unknown to begin with. I'm part of a local community organization that gives back to kids so I feel proud of my philanthropic work..but some of you here are helping people achieve a degree...my hats off to those that helped. Specifically PrLoko and rebel100

I have applied for graduation from COSC and recently completed the cornerstone 8wk and have completed all my assignments for the capstone 8week (and had completed a bunch of straighterlines and one dsst and a couple of waivers) ...(we just need to submit our group project, that is being put together)

It's simply crazy something that I never thought I would get around to do, but always felt like I wanted to...I actually got done. Thanks to you all

06/06/2015 10 years removed from school, 108 credits want to finish my business/finance degree
online definitely New member. Please be gentle. In 2004 i walked down the aisle when I received enough credits to do so (108) and never finished. Now i need to finish my undergrad to fulfill becoming a cfp. It needs to be an acreddited school. I'm looking for online, cheap and the one that will allow me the most credit transfer and least amount of more credits to finish. My credits are from florida international, miami dade college and also have some clep. Also my gpa was shitty. I was not dedicated in my youth. Ijust wanted to party. My gpa is/was 1.788. Any help would greatly be appreciated http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...ts-15.html

12/21/2015 I started off very close, thought I would go the tecep route but I am glad I made the switch to COSC. Learned so much a long the way, from knowing zero and very apprehensive to feeling very comfortable with "the system" A few straighterlines, a dsst on ethics and a waiver fulfilled all my remaining requirements. Now I am one cornerstone 8 week semester and one 8 week semester capstone course away from graduation with my bachelor's in business from COSC. Crazy stuff, thank you all.

You're very welcome. Congratulations on earning that degree!

My story is older, but mirrors yours quite closely. I stick around to repay the great service I received back in 2010 or so, I feel it's sort of a welcome debt that I owe.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Same here...

Sometimes I look back and can't believe how far I've come since January 10, 2013 when I decided to re-enroll in school. I try to pay it forward and give ideas to all the people in my life who really want to return to school. They find it hard to believe that I earned an AA on 12/11/13, a BS on 8/10/2014, and a MS on 5/19/16 (coming soon). Some things I already knew about (CLEP and DSST) but the people who took time out to help me with a degree plan and give me the pros and cons of choosing COSC vs. TESU given my course history - I'll remember that forever. I've had strangers do more for me on this board than people I've known for years in real life. It's really amazing awesome to see how helpful people are in a society that is so focused on self.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

Road traveled: AA (2013) > BS (2014) > MS (2016) > Doctorate (2024)

Soliloquy is correct. It's amazing how much forum members share and support. Cookderosa is like having our own college counselor - both for courses and for mental health! Some folks in my family can twist a penny until is screams for mercy, and Sanatone's kind of like that when it comes to getting courses, tests, etc. to line up and give you all that they can.

Of course, lots of folks have posted about the WGU MBA, but reading Soliloquy's posts is like being in the trenches right with her. (Actually, it's so real that I'm suffering collateral stress. How does she do it?)

Some folks take it amiss when we ask for clarification on statements or reasoning. What they don't realize is that it's a way to help. I was just talking with someone about institutional memory. This forum is the institutional memory for CLEPs, DSSTs, the "Big Three," etc., etc. etc. Maybe (that's a BIG maybe, in case you missed it) a person could go to many books, web sites, forums, etc, and get some of what if known here, but there's no where else one could go for "one stop" shopping, AND all of the support.

We are a lucky bunch.

Those are very kind words. I'm glad to see you stuck it through; congratulations. I've been out of the loop lately, but the next "generation" of DFers got it covered. Stick around and pay it forward. This forum needs more COSC champions.

PrLoko-isms
Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Like the others in this thread have posted, I'm grateful to have been helped by this forum to achieve something that was so impossible at the time. Paying it forward is how I act out my own feelings of gratitude for those that helped me.

Yes, I feel the same, I want to do what I can to help fellow forum members who seek the assistance.
