New TESU Residency Requirement!!! 16cr, TECEP's do not count?!?
#51
What I'm about to share might be completely irrelevant to what you all are discussing here, but I thought I'd copy and paste what it says in my TESU academic evaluation. I ran it just now. Keeping in mind that I am on the 2015 catalog, this is what it says:

Quote:Students enrolled in Thomas Edison State University through the Enrolled Options Tuition Plan or the Comprehensive Tuition Plan do not have a residency requirement and may disregard this section.

However, students enrolled in the following tuition/enrollment plans have a residency requirement.

.Per Credit Tuition Plan
.Military Degree Completion Plan
.Navy College Partnership Program
.GoArmyEd/eArmyU Program

Students in these plans must earn twelve (12) semester hours of Thomas Edison State University credit in order to earn an associate degree and twenty-four (24) semester hours of Thomas Edison State University credit in order to earn a baccalaureate degree. Please note that the residency requirement at Thomas Edison State University do not mean that you must physically come to the University or attend courses at any physical location.

MILITARY STUDENTS who enrolled in the University prior to October 2012 may have a lesser amount of required residency credits. If this is the case, there will be an additional note listing the specific amounts AFTER the residency course list.

All Thomas Edison State University earned credit satisfies the residency requirement; including Guided Study/Online/Blended/e-Pack courses, TECEP exams and/or Portfolio Assessment.

The courses listed below are your Thomas Edison State University courses that satisfy your residency requirement. These courses are also listed separately in the area of your evaluation where they fulfill degree requirements.

Then it lists the courses I have taken at TESU that are counted as resident courses, and the total resident credits (42). Among those are my TECEP and portfolio courses (not including the four I recently submitted--those don't show up yet on my eval).

I haven't had to think much about residency issues for a long time so this might not be helpful.
BSBA/Accounting TESU (2016). MSA UIUC (2018).

Need help with portfolios? I earned 18 credits at TESU through portfolio evaluations. Nine of those were for upper level accounting courses. My advice for PLA/portfolios: TESU portfolio tips The first post has the Portfolio Checklist I created. Page ten has the actual narrative I wrote to receive credit for ACC-440.

Using Straighterline's Financial Accounting as a substitute for TESU's Intermediate Accounting I? Don't do it if you are an accounting major and/or want your CPA license. They are not the same course and I think TESU has erred in accepting the SL course as Intermediate I. I made this discovery here: Intermediate Accounting II.

alzee Wrote:Yeah, this blows. I had just started figuring out what I was going to do about residency, as a per-credit enrolled student. My plan had boiled down to one course at TESC for 1500, and three TECEPs for 500. Now it's going to be 1500 for the one course, the 2000 waiver, and the rest of the credits wherever I can get them on the cheap, and no TECEPs unless I can't meet the degree requirement any other way.

What I'm looking for now is a course I can take at TESC under per-credit that is less than 3 credits; as in, just 1 or 2, since the only reason I'm taking any course through them is for the institutional GPA requirement.

You can take the PLA-100 for one credit, or there is a Jane Austin one credit course I remember seeing.

Thanks. PLA-100 was on my short list, I'll go looking for the other one as well.

i'm currently enrolled in the 1-credit Jane Austen course for GPA purposes; that one is just about Pride and Prejudice (ENG-298), but there is also a 3-credit course about all of her works (ENG-393), so it can get a little confusing.

edited to add: i also managed to get enrolled in APS-100 for the April term Wink that one is only offered every three months it seems, because it's not available online for the May term... i had to call in and request to register for the April term even though it's a couple days past the late registration deadline.

The reason while your TECEPs show up as residency is most likely because they have been grandfathered. Any new ones will most likely not show up as residency.

The associate registrar says she needs to talk to the vice president of Learner Services to see if I can be accommodated.

I guess no one has any definitive answers as of yet, but if anyone cares to chime in on my situation I would appreciate the feedback.

I am enrolled in the per credit tuition plan under the 2015 catalog. I have 12 credits done via TECEP that count toward my residency under the 2015 catalog policy. I also have 2 TECEPS paid for (February term) that I was planning on taking before that term is over in April.
That would still leave me with 6 residency credits needed under the old plan (3 will be Capstone).

Do you think those TECEP's will count toward my residency since they were paid for under the old policy with the intention of using them for residency?

I am also wondering if it makes sense to take these 2 TECEP's before April 1 to get in under the old rules?

In a perfect world I am grandfathered in but I guess nobody knows until we get a definitive answer.

When does your per-credit expire? Under the most unfavorable interpretation of the rules, you have to graduate before your current per-credit expires. That grandfathered status will eventually expire. If you let it expire, the old TECEPs no longer count towards residency. Someone should ask TESU what they intend to do once your current tour of duty expires.

I purchased the TECEP exams for the February term back in January. So if i purchased January 25 I would be good until January 25, 2017?
