UExccel Conflicting Statements?
#1
Hi everyone,

I'm a student at Florida State University. Uexcel's website (through excelsior college) says that my university accepts their credits. However, my university claims not to (I went in and asked). However, my university has also tried to mislead me before regarding testing options, so I don't fully trust what they are telling me/ perhaps they are not even aware of Uexcel (the person I asked hadn't even ever heard of Uexcel).

What is a definite way to find out if my school accepts Uexcel? I really doubt Excelsior would just risk putting down random schools and saying that the schools accept Uexcels if it wasn't true.

If the school is unwilling or hesitant to provide information on this (or simply delays and postpones answering me, as they have done before), is it possible to contact the state or some sort of governmental board to see if my school indeed accepts Uexcel or not?

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Ultimately, the school writes the policy. If someone other than the school tells you they accept something, but the school disagrees, then the school is right and your other source is mistaken. I couldn't find anything on Florida State's website to indicate that they accept UExcel. I would follow up with another advisor or the registrar or soneone to confirm, but Excelsior's website is not necessarily a reliable source of other college's policies.

I think one of the issues might be that you're talking to the school about UExcel's when you should actually be asking if they will accept a CBE from Excelsior college. UExcel is fairly new, so there may be problems there (they used to be called ECE's).

There was a previous thread which talked about this, which I can't find now. You may want to search and see if you can find it.

Also, here is a previous thread regarding UExcel's. One of the things is the transcript it comes on, rather than an ACE-transcript. That's because Excelsior is a school, and these are their challenge exams. It's more like taking a course at a college and transferring it. If you took a course at another school and transferred it in, the people at the school where you were going to transfer it wouldn't necessarily know anything about that other school or any of their courses. http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...sults.html

Last, this is probably something you should take up with Excelsior. I would definitely tell them that a school on their list is saying that they WON'T accept a UExcel, and see what they say about that. They may know something specific (that whoever you talked to at the school doesn't know), or they may not be aware that there's an issue that needs to get resolved.

Excelsior just states that students had transcripts sent to those schools, not necessarily that the schools will accept the credit. In the past Uexcels were ace recommended for credit but the credit recommendations have expired. Now they are challenge exams/credit by exams that some schools will accept but it is still up to each school to decide what they will accept.
