TESC Test Out Plans Starting July 1, 2015
#41
Richard Arnold Jr Wrote:Hey. I'm new here, but I would really like some help constructing a plan to get the ASNSM in Computer Science from TESC.

I am employed in an organization that offers a lucrative, and career changing, option for those who posses an Associate's degree. As such I would like to complete all the requirements for one as soon as possible in order to take advantage of the opportunity before it is too late.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Some questions for you before you can plan your degree:
1) Do you have any credits under your belt already?
2) Which tuition plan do you plan on doing: Per-Credit Tuition Plan, which requires 12cr of residency (you can use TECEP's to fulfill it) or Enrolled Options Tuition Plan ($3300 to enroll)?
3) How would you like to take your courses/exams: CLEP, DSST, Straighterline courses, Saylor courses, cheapest possible way, etc. For instance, if you want to use Straighterline, and plan on taking several courses each month, that's a cheaper option than CLEP/DSST. But if you only do 1 course per month, then that's a more expensive way to go.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

1) Do you have any credits under your belt already?

ANS: I do have credits, but as I am an a foreign national, and those credits were earned from a foreign university, I do not know if they are relevant to this approach. Time is essential to me, as I have said, and I do not know how long it would take to get those evaluated for accreditation, or if it would even be worth the effort.

2) Which tuition plan do you plan on doing: Per-Credit Tuition Plan, which requires 12cr of residency (you can use TECEP's to fulfill it) or Enrolled Options Tuition Plan ($3300 to enroll)?

ANS: I would be going with the "Per-Credit". That is the cheaper option, and if these can be fulfilled using TECEPs, that means the exams are online, and that works really well for me.

ANS: I would prefer to explore options that allow tests/exams to be completed online, or in my native country, Belize, if at all possible. My employer is very stringent when it comes to education, and as such, it is unlikely that I would be allowed to travel to the US, to take an exam and travel back multiple times.

Do you have any US immigration status other than a tourist visa or visa waiver program? That would allow you to come to the US for a short visit and knock out 3 or 4 tests per day during your "vacation" in the US. That's 3 or 4 classes per day you don't have to take. Someone here visited the US and knocked out 20+ tests for 60+ credits in one short visit to the US. I would not advise doing this on a tourist visa or waiver, because immigration will probably frown on this plan.

Nyarpy Wrote:Just ran into an issue with my BSBA plan. I had taken the DSST "Business Ethics in Society" thinking that it would fulfill the "Business in Society or International Management" at TESC, but they just informed me that it no longer does (they now consider it Business Ethics and not Business in Society), so now I basically took a useless exam and am stuck taking another essay-based TECEP before I can graduate.
I've asked this question twice before, but received no answer. Did you obtain this information by email/ticket message or through the advisement hotline? Since the advisement hotline is wrong half the time, I do not want to change my degree plan based on their answers.

Regarding the evaluation of the foreign credits, well, of course it depends what they are. I wouldn't automatically rule it out, though, especially if, for example, you have British A-Levels.

I spoke with Advisement today on the hotline and they said that the Straighterline version of Business Ethics in Society PHI84 is not accepted in the new catalog for Business in Society. I am going to file a ticket and see if I get the same response. I just applied for March graduation. This is seriously killing me right now. I will update once I get additional feedback.

Definitely do not take the information you get over the phone at TESC as gospel. There's numerous instances of TESC giving incorrect information over the phone, only to have someone email in and get a conflicting, yet correct answer. You could probably call back now and get a different answer.

Thank you! I submitted a ticket to advisement this afternoon. I will report back with my results. I really don't want to take another TECEP.

The Straighterline course is Business Ethics; however, the DSST is Business Ethics and Society and has a different equivalency (BUS-302?). I was wondering if that still counted.
