I'm sorry about your dad, Beate. Thanks for replying. I hope your course is going well.

FallingWaters Wrote:Question about the Capstone, which I'm beginning soon. I'm assuming the same texts required regardless of what direction you're going with the topic? Do any of you have used textbooks you'd like to sell to me?
FYI, yes, everyone will use the same 2 textbooks regardless of what kind of paper they're writing.

I wasted a $110+ on both books, and I didn't even crack them for the course.

I'm starting in January, too! It's been a whirlwind, and I can hardly believe I'm only one course away from finishing my degree after all this time. I'm taking it as an online course with James Cody. Wish I had a good idea on a topic. Computer Science is my specialty. I was thinking I would either do something on computer architecture, or perhaps on a figure from the history of computing. I've always been interested in Alan Turing, and last years' movie really did him a disservice.

Some other ideas: Linus Torvalds, Steve Wozniak, future of virtual reality (Magic Leap), Bitcoin, Cryptography/Encryption, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Virus that affect industrial applications, history of large servers that maximize efficiency (for instance now they are located in frosty areas with natural cooling), history of Search (google), how facial recognition / visual search works, what is or how to pick the best password, layout of a keyboard - why designed in this layout, could brain implantable computers work, beating spam - how to catch bad email, etc....

I like the search idea. I architected and wrote the full text search engine for the World Book Encyclopedia on CDROM back in the early 90s. I could build from there.

The brain/computer interface idea could be fun, too.

What topic did you end up going with, davewill?
