I am happy to announce that students can clear the Intro to Web Dev I modules by passing the CIW Site Development Associate exam. That is a total of five modules of assignments and quizzes you can skip. You can also skip the Javascript modules by passing the CIW Javascript Specialist exam. I think that's another five modules. After module 5, you can complete a CIW certification (there are only the two I mentioned) or the final project to demonstrate competency without having to complete the assignments and quizzes. Maybe I could have skipped some of the first five modules by passing the CIW Internet Business Associate exam, but that wasn't made clear anywhere. Even though taking the two extra CIW tests will add $300 to my costs, it will save me a lot of time and frustration.

It only took 3 days. However I did call and they were super helpful. They only review applications on Fridays.

I contacted COSC for the Technology and Integration Support Certificate 44 quarter hours - They wrote back and said it would be 3.3 credits and not their 5 credits. Which is great. I just noticed you posted the approved hours. Thank you for this information. My son completed the fist semester and has his certification exam on Wednesday. However he did earn 14 credits already.

You're welcome and congratulations to your son, but I'm not sure I understand your post. I posted the quarter hours and the semester hour conversions. In order to convert quarter hours to semester hours, divide by 1.5. A 5 quarter hour course is equal to 3.33 semester hours. My program, Web Development, is made up of multiple 5 quarter hour courses.

From COSC regarding the above course: One acceptable source of transfer credit is a regionally accredited college like Edmonds CC. We do accept any credit bearing, degree applicable courses which most or all of these appear to be. They are all based in quarter hours (QH), so they will transfer at a rate of 2/3 to equivalent semester hours (SM). That means each 5 QH course will transfer as 3.3 SH
I hope I made sense. It's all new to me :0)

I was just accepted but forgot my student ID, so now I must retrieve it before registering :|, hoping to use the web dev certificate to meet most of the free electives requirements. Maybe if I'm lucky physical/natural world requirement too? I don't know. Excited for it, actually know JavaScript so I anticipate I can blaze through that part at the very least .
Sanantone, when you go ahead to prove competency if you get stuck can you go back? Or are you stuck with that decision?

I've been able to do the reverse, so I think it shouldn't be a problem. I originally had wanted to go through the early HTML stuff, but ended up just taking the cert instead. You can always go back through the material as well.

Spoke to ECC today, lady said I'd have to put in 20 hours per week to finish before the grant deadline. I feel I can probably pull that off but what do you guys think about the time investment with this? Is it faster than Edmonds has estimated for you folks? Especially if I result to sanantone's strategy of using the review banks to just take the certs, can I do that from the outset of each course? Sanantone did you ever figure out if the business associate cert clears any modules?
Thanks guys.

THe webpage says they're accepting applications for Web Developer Edmonds Community College: Certificate Overview, but the online application page says there's no openings for that Online application site (drop down on what type of certificate)

Online registration is closed, that's what I was told. You have to contact the school directly to register for these now because the grant deadline is in March.
