I need to take Eng Comp 2 to graduate but I last took Eng Comp 1 sixteen years ago. Needless to say I'm a bit out of practice. Can you guys tell me what books you used to prepare yourselves for your exams? I won't be able to test out of the class myself but that doesn't really matter. I just need to refresh my grammar and writing. I figured what better place to ask than a forum dedicated to self education.

I am preparing to take the TECEP English Comp II exam, so I just bought what they told me to study: The Hodges Harbrace Handbook. I got it from my local library. It's MLA-style (Humanities), there is also APA-style (Social Sciences). Both styles were updated in 2009, so get a version written after that year. There are all kinds of guides and handbooks you can buy/borrow, I would either go to the library or Amazon and get something that has 5 stars.
There's also the Purdue online writing lab you can check out: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/ But if you're going to take the actual course somewhere, they will have a specific book they want you to get.
