10 years removed from school, 108 credits want to finish my business/finance degree
#71
I was awarded financial aid for this upcoming term. I dont know how it works honestly but it seems to be quite a bit.

http://www.degreeforum.net/general-e...tml#post188788

lends me to think the enrollment method would be the way to go for me now and knock it out in one semester (if possible) via cleps/dsst (I live out of state)

based on this new information do you agree? I still don't have my official evaluation as of yet as there was some delay on their part in receiving my transcript from my previous institution (they have received my finra credit)

so I'm leaning towards at the moment waiting to see what my evaluation looks like before I continue? I've never received financial aid before so I'm somewhat lost on this part now as well.

I was told to receive financial aid you need to be enrolled at least part time but the financial aid letter shows that I need to choose between enrollment, per credit or comprehebsive but you must be enrolled in 6 credit classes so that does not seem to make much sense?

Thank you for all your help

I sent you a PM. I think I explained what I could in there. 6 credits at TESC is considered part time for financial aid purposes and will allow you to receive FA. Anything less and the aid gets cut. Is any of that a Pell Grant, or is it loan?

Welcome! You're a young thing! I just graduated with my BS at 60! Same type of thing - blew off college when I was younger, blew off a full Regents scholarship, can you say young and stupid! Smile

The Pell grant for 1444, is the only money you don't have to pay back*. The Subsidized and Unsubsidized at about $4200 are loans which will have to be paid back after you graduate. For the Pell Grant, TESC will prorate that amount quarterly. So you will get $361.00 of that your first (and probably only) quarter. The remaining can be used to fund other costs you may have. The interest rate is fairly low on them, I think somewhere in the 3-4% range right now. Subsidized will NOT accrue interest until you finish, while the unsubsidized will accrue interest I believe from day one.

On your other question; yes, they are still waiting for your CLEP, Miami Dade and FINRA transcripts. You have to send official transcripts from all institutions even if the credit appears on another transcript. In other words, from the original source.

* This money may have to be paid back if you withdraw from school or go below 1/2 time.

PrLoko firstly you are the man, if you are ever in South Florida, lunch of your choice is on me.

Secondly, with that being the case and me not really wanting to get into more debt, I take it TECEP route is still probably the best route for me to go then correct? Can I just use the pell grant toward tecep or should I just not mess with the financial aid at all.

Lastly, I took my clep's at miami dade when I request the transcript of all records from them will they send my clep's or does clep have it's own transcript somewhere that I need to send in?

P.S. I should ignore this evaluation as it's not taking into account half of what I have completed correct?

I'll break my response down.

I haven't been in florida in over 12 years, but I appreciate the offer. Truly. Smile

If you are hell bent on not accruing additional debt (sounds smart to me), then yes, TECEP will be the most cost effective. You can only get financial aid if you take actual classes (not tecep), so you give up about $360, woopdie doo.

Last question, you have to send an official CLEP transcript from the collegeboard (about $20 I think) to TESC directly. They will not evaluate credit transferred to another school. It has to be from the original source. This is the case with basically all schools. This will also include your FINRA stuff. You wanna request this all in at once.

If you can ballpark what you already taken and think you can guess where the rest of the credits will go, you can probably start taking some TECEPs now if you don't want to wait another 4 weeks to start.

so i found this site...I dont even remember which cleps I took...I'm pretty sure I took a spanish clep and a pc clep...do I call the number on file and they can help me look up that record and get it sent over?

I sent individually my miami dade college transcript and the official finra request so it looks like everything will be coming in individually unfortunately (chalk it up to my inexperience)
