Advice For Astronomy DSST

Hello,

I have failed twice at the Astronomy DSST. It is the last credit I need for Thomas Edison since I need a science credit to complete my English degree. I have used Instancert and watched some videos from Great Courses. Right now I don't have time to take a class.

Any suggestions?

but I used the biology version of the series to pass the CLEP bio exam and I thought it was an easy read and covered 90% of teh material

Does it have to be the Astronomy DSST? Can you take a CLEP or a different DSST or a Straighterline class?

I'm wonderig if you've confused needing a specific type of science credit with TESCs general category of natural science credit.

You should be able to choose from DSST/CLEP/TECEP Natural Science/Mathematics category to fill the requirement.

Thank you. I tried the Math CLEP but ended up having to take an actually math course.

I'm have used Pass DSST Astronomy The Easy Way by David C. Wilson. Unfortunately, a lot of the materials that claim to help with the DSST Astronomy Test focus mainly on the facts while the test requires a lot of deductive reasoning and scenarios. Is there any material out there that deals with deductive reasoning in regards to the DSST Astronomy Test?

Which math did you take?

Why not Aleks? Intermediate Algebra is easily doable and transfers in as MAT-115. It's completely online and at your own pace. Even a math phobe could complete it in a short amount of time. You get a used text, there are quite a few good math helpp sites, and then work through the pie until you can complete an assessment at 70%. You could sign up on a trial basis and start with begining algebra to warm up.

The next least stressful choice, in my opinion, is the dantes Intro to Computing exam. It was very very easy and there are flashcards. Straighterline also has some offerings if you prefer a course format (ex. Intro to Biology, Intro to Environmental Science or Science of Nutrition).

I'm sorry, I just don't understand why you would want to retake an exam you've already struggled with twice. Why not just move on?

Sorry to hear that- twice, ouch. That's a kick in the gut.

I like the Great Courses, I've used them in our homeschool from time to time, and I'm actually thankful you said they didn't prepare you since they were on my list of "maybe" for that exam. I'll be interested to hear what others suggest.

Thank you. I talked with Thomas Edison and they said I could take another science related DSST or CLEP. I'm interested in the Natural Sciences CLEP, but Instantcert doesn't have flash cards for that test.

Have you taken biology yet? Natural Sciences CLEP is half biology, which would be really nice for you if you have. I've not tried that one (too chicken to test out of any sciences) however, Free Clep Prep does have a study guide and practice test so you could at least look at it and see. EDIT: OMG there is a little astronomy on there! These types of tests are shallow, not deep, so VERY good possibility that you'd ace the astronomy section.
