Seconding what Westerner said: Read all 3 recommended books. I didn't have much background in history subjects, but passed with an A. There's a lot of stuff to read up, but it's definitely doable, informative, and interesting. If you have the time, go for it! Just make sure you read all 3 books well and take the PTs.

Passed today with a C and I honestly have no idea how I did. I felt like I knew about 20 questions down cold, 30 I had down to about 50% and the rest(70) I was totally lost. The way the questions are worded is so crazy. I can't think of any examples now, but I remember re-reading a few questions over and over and I still couldn't even tell what the question was. I didn't read any of the recommended material and that is most likely why I was lost on 70 questions.
I used: Khan academy, idiot's guide to world history, a quizlet set and few different history overviews on youtube.
I only used those sources, but hit em hard for probably 40 hours total over 10 days.
