New TECEPs from TESC
#1
I noticed a few new exams on the TECEP list today.

Introduction To Critical Reasoning - NEW TECEP (PHI-130-TE)
Microeconomics - NEW TECEP (ECO-112-TE)
Managerial Communications - NEW TECEP (MAN-373-TE)

I'd love to see them focus on developing upper-level exams that don't already have test-out options (Hello Micro!), but it's always nice to have more possibilities on the TECEP list.
BA, MA, EdS, MMT, etc.

Yeah, these offerings are kind of disappointing. LOL. A LL philosophy test is not really needed. I think Managerial Communications used to be offered as a TECEP in the past and disappeared temporarily for some reason. Saylor's Corporate Communications has three equivalencies with one of them being MAN-373. When is Saylor going to fix its website? I still have to use Google to navigate it.

Not regretting taking the class for Managerial Communications (one of those cases where having TA and only paying for the book comes out cheaper than taking the TECEP).

Looking at the exam breakdown though compared with my midterm, I could have easily passed this (scored 85% on the midterm, and that was out of 100 questions with a lot of short answers in it).

Thanks for the heads up.

Why do they keep coming up with the same ones as CLEP/DSST/UExcel/Straighterline/ALEKS/Saylor? How many different ways can you take College Algebra? I wish they would realize that they need DIFFERENT tests than are already out there, especially UL courses, and start working on those! Spending time/money/resources on the same old stuff makes no sense.

Students could really benefit from UL history tests after DSST retired a couple of theirs. If they are going to add more business tests, then they should cover specialized requirements and electives for human resources, accounting, CIS, finance, etc. Maybe more people should fill out the form on the right on the TECEP page. I've made suggestions before, but I'm only one person. They probably have mostly their more "traditional" students requesting tests. I can't see why anyone here would want a TECEP for microeconomics.

Oh, and they still haven't added the TECEPs they said they were going to add. I remember one was going to be mechanical engineering.

Good catch, I just looked at the list the other day and did not notice. There was a suggestion box a few months ago. Managerial Communications has a rep of being more work than expected so I'm sure business students are thrilled to have the course available as an exam. (Similar to Strategic Management which is a ton of work, although a great intro to graduate work.) Micro, in my opinion the easiest out of the two basic economics courses, is a nice option to have in exam format. The critical reasoning exam I would consider a freebie; easy three credits.

I think it's wonderful for TESC to start introducing more exam options so those enrolled under the Pay Per Credit Tuition Plan (as well as Comprehensive) can take advantage. Also keep in mind, I quickly learned testers at TESC are the minority not the norm. Students will likely appreciate the lower level exams to fill gen ed/free electives because they will complete upper level credit as actual courses. When you see so many Arnold Fletcher award recipients it is not due to testing but adult/military students having transferred in amassed credit taken over the course of many years.

I look forward to feedback from students after they've taken these new exams. I would definitely take both the critical reasoning and managerial communications.

Just as an FYI, the English Composition II (ENC102) exam was revised in October 2014. The exam is not as easy as it once was (one research paper, 4hrs, vers 2005), but still less work and time when compared to a full semester.

This is good. There is a lot of people that would like to do the "per credit option' with Tesc
and this works as an advantage.

I'll admit it - I'm actually glad they're offering Microeconomics, because now I can do that as a TECEP instead of a CLEP and do my Strategic Management at Penn Foster rather than the TECEP. I didn't think of it in terms of the per-credit option, and I'm down to my last 11 classes (all specific to my degree), and 8 of them were to be TECEP's. I was really not looking forward to the SM TECEP, so this does help me out.
