TESC degree plan help? Should I transfer asap?
#1
After reviewing my coursework from years ago with an advisor at my local CC, I'm doubting my decision to take classes and pay out of pocket. I'm on academic restriction due to completion rate/GPA - I amassed a year's worth of WF's half a decade ago. My cumulative gpa is 1.6, and can be raised up to about a 2.5 at most if I complete my AS program with 4.0's for the remaining semesters. I have 24 earned credits from in seat classes, and 6 more from CLEP/AP tests. I've been plugging things in to see where the best value would be - at my restricted rate of coursework, I can't graduate with an AS for 5-6 semesters, each costing between 1000 and 1500. My credit breaks down as follows:

AP Psych Exam: 3 Credits, transcribed as Psych 101 (Intro to Psych)
CLEP C04: 3 Credits, transcribed as English 111 (English Comp)
First Year Seminar: 1 Credit
CINS 101, 3 Credits, Introduction to Microcomputers
COMM 101, 3 Credits, Fund. Public Speaking
English 249, 3 Credits, Linguistics
History 102, 3 Credits, American History: 1877 to present
Phil 102, 3 Credits, Intro to Ethics
Fitn 100, 2 Credits, Lifetime Fitness and Wellness
Geog 207, World Geography 3 Credits
Math 118, Concepts in Math, 3 Credits

I am currently enrolled for two classes starting in October, Eng 112 (exposition), and Math 136 (College Algebra and Trig). After receiving my invoice today for tuition (1,055) - I think it might be wiser to give up on the CC route and transfer right into TESC. From what I'm looking at, attempting either a Social Science or Psych BA would be decently within my reach, no? I'd really prefer to find a way to do the Nat Science/Mathematics Degree, but heavier on the science than the math. I'm looking into Straighterline courses for that, and have amassed all the spreadsheets and info from here, but I'm feeling like I'm missing a resource that explains which courses/tests can be used for which categories at TESC. Sorry if I'm asking for information readily available - this is all a bit overwhelming!

Yes, I would drop the local cc and go to TESC if I were you. Here is just one example of how you could complete the AA General Studies at TESC, which would also count as the first half of a BA in Social Science or Natural Science/ Math.

TESC AA General Studies Daelaria
1. CLEP C04: 3 Credits, transcribed as English 111 (English Comp) (maybe 6 from TESC)
2. (Need TECEP English Composition II 3 if TESC doesn’t accept CLEP as 6 credits)
3. Math 118, Concepts in Math, 3 Credits
4. COMM 101, 3 Credits, Fund. Public Speaking
5. Need Kaplan PLA 1/200 3 credits
6. English 249, 3 Credits, Linguistics
7. AP Psych Exam: 3 Credits, transcribed as Psych 101 (Intro to Psych)
8. CINS 101, 3 Credits, Introduction to Microcomputers
9. History 102, 3 Credits, American History: 1877 to present
10. Need TECEP Technical Writing 3 credits
11. Need TECEP Intro to Political Science 3 credits
12. Phil 102, 3 Credits, Intro to Ethics
13. Geog 207, World Geography 3 Credits
14. Need TECEP Marriage and the Family 3 credits
15. Need CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Lit 6 credits
16. Need any 6-hour CLEP (Social Science and History, Natural Science, Literature…Wink
17. Need any 6-hour CLEP or TEEX Cybersecurity series

I'm hoping someone else will comment more. I dislocated my left index finger yesterday and typing hurts more than I thought it would. Good luck, OP.

Thank you. That's a lot of TECEP's for just an AA (which I am honestly not even worried about). I'm really interested in going straight for the Bachelor's, and was looking into Straighterline earlier. Do you think anyone could help me plug in my credits for a Nat Sci/Math degree?

I hope your finger mends quickly!

Four TECEPs for the AA (3 more + Capstone for the BA) get you into the Pay Per Credit plan, which waives the enrollment fee. Check out the plans on the wiki for help with the BA. Your credits will still fit where I put them on the plan for the AA, since the AA is just the general requirements section of the BA.
