I'm enrolled at Excelsior and I just received an updated MAP (my academic plan); I was surprised to see that they didn't award me credit for two exams that I passed. The exams were "Business Ethics and Society", and "Business Law II", however they did give me credit for "Ethics in America". Does anyone know if the two exams that they didn't give me credit for duplicate "Ethics in America" or is this a simple oversight? I will call my academic advisor tomorrow but as of right now I'm very concerned.

Not sure if the ethics exams duplicate at Excelsior but another forum member recently had an issue with a prometric transcript. The grades were listed on the transcript incorrectly so were in fact seen as failed exams. Prometric quickly rectified the problem and mailed a replacement. Of course check with Excelsior first, but don't be surprised if it was a prometric error. In the interim, also check your online prometric account.

At the bottom of your updated "MAP," under the "Credits NOT Applied" section it should state if the credits duplicate or not. You may need to speak with your advisor.

You can avoid this by requesting approval for exams. They will tell you if CLEP or DSST are approved for your degree and if they conflict with existing credits.
EDIT: Oh, I guess you mean you had passed them before you enrolled. Anyway, going forward you know.

Thanks for the replies; @ Exfactor, I just checked the bottom of my MAP and it doesn't say that I have any duplicates or credits that weren't applied. @ Bricabrac, I just attempted to login into my Prometrics account using the same user name and password that I use to take test, and it wouldn't let me in. Is that the Prometrics login that you were referring to or is it something else?

I just logged in with no problem and it has been close to three years since I last signed on. Try this link.
https://ibt1.prometric.com/login.asp
Yes sign on using the same username and password used when taking your exams.
Once you get to the personal information, click ok. Then click on the link for candidate menu. Then review scores.
If it does not work, call prometric in the morning. Toll free (877) 471-9860
There may be some computer glitch with your account, may just need a reset.

I have no idea about business law II, but according to my recent MAP, the two ethics exams are not duplicate.

Upton, Thanks for sharing this! Since I haven't met my ethics requirement yet, I was wondering about which test to take. It looks like from your transcript that Business Ethics and society DSSt gave you 3 upper level which I need for my business core. The advice for future reference is to have the tests approved by an advisor before you take them. Obviously this takes longer than testing out for months and then applying for a capstone and a degree but it does eliminate duplicate work. As for these courses duplicating it should detail them on your transcript otherwise they haven't been transcribed yet. So call an advisor today.

I called Prometric on Monday morning, using the number that Bricabrac provided, and they informed me of all my scores and that they all had been sent to Excelsior. So no, it wasn't them. I then called Excelsior and found out from my academic advisor that they did receive the transcripts from Prometric, but that they haven't yet transcribed them. I was also informed that none of the exams were duplicates, YAHOO (I won't risk making that mistake again)!
Thank you all so much for your help, it's much appreciated.

SumJeff, that's great news, getting approvals in your classes and exam sections can be the best way to feel that you are making progress.
