Great job IronJack! You can do this!
One thing that was weird to me was the amount of repetition. As you continue they will ask you to basically repeat what you have already wrote (and they mean it)! Only in academia do people want you to say (or in this case write)the same thing over and over and over again. For some reason this shows them how smart you are, LOL! One of the last assignments is to repeat your entire paper, but this time in a only a couple of paragraphs.
Why if it can be said in a couple of paragraphs does academia want it drawn out into at least 25 pages?? I guess they have to fill an entire semester somehow Enjoy!

I'm doing pretty good, I handed in my first two assignments and received a 90 on both of them. 3rd assignment is due this Sunday.
I cannot wait to be done with this course. Not just because it is my final 3 credits for my BA, but because it is so freaking boring.

Can219,
I'm taking LIB 495 this February (2014) as a GS course with Dr. Casey Maugh. What prof do you have? Did you pick GS or OL? I'm curious if we're maybe in the same class.
Best wishes to you. I'm a bit uneasy about the whole thing myself.
P.S. If anyone's had Casey Maugh before, I'd really appreciate knowing what to expect. There really wasn't much info on ratemyprofessor.com.

I have Casey Maugh for Mass Communications I. She kind of disappeared during the first couple weeks of the course, and grades were slow in coming. They were good grades, though, and her note said she liked my work. But recently she showed up on the discussion board and replied to everyone, and in a very friendly, upbeat, casual manner. If this keeps up, I'm really going to enjoy her class.

Gooberman11 are you talking about the abstract? That's just the version for those who don't have time to read the whole paper (hopefully not the ones grading it ;-).

No, the abstract is only a few hundred words. Assignment/chapter 5 is a complete review of everything you've already written. Apparently academics love redundancy.

Hi, Beate, I'd be interested in any feedback you have on Longenbach. It looks like I will have him for LIB495. Thanks!

Oh dear, I'd love to give you more info on Longenbach, but I ended up dropping the course and re-enrolling for February with Dr Maugh. My Dad passed away in October and I just couldn't get my head to concentrate on the capstone in December.
The first posts he made on the course website sounded pleasant, but that's all I can say really, sorry.
Good luck!
