Finding friends online?
#1
Hello there!

I am a Christian college-age, previously-homeschooled girl and I recently moved across country. Thus I don't really have many friends, especially since I am studying online.

I was wondering if anyone knew about a forum or something with other people like me who I can chat with. I have found sites like this a little bit before, but usually these forums are like ghost towns.

Thanks!

I'm not sure where you are in North Carolina, but there is TONS to do here!!! Instead of limiting yourself to meeting friends online, why not join some local clubs, sports, or groups? I think you'll find tons of people like you, but they might be outside! Smile

Beary Green, There are Irish American societies all across America, Look you your local Feis timetable and see if any dance schools need a hand with new students you'll meet tons of people that way. There is also the AOH (ancient order of Hibernians) which might provide you with contacts. The AOH is generally Roman Catholic but as An Cailin Damhsa you'll meet people who may have a common interest with yourself.

Thank you both for your replies!

I am involved in several things here. I am in a very good Irish dance school, and I also have a good part time job. I know people in the area and have some good friends here, however my family is looking to move in the near future and I would love to have some sort of online friend base that would keep when I move.

There are many different ways to find friends, sometimes online and sometimes in person. For example, one of my closest friends, I met online through TESC and other friends by volunteering at local events.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Stay in touch with your current friends using Facebook. Online communities are nice, but they are no replacement for friends you have spent time with IRL. As much as I love my DegreeForums contacts, they are not the same as friends I known for years in person.
