2012 DOD pass rates - CLEP & DSST
#31
Since the first 2 links didn't work and Publius' site is blocked at my work, I figured I'd attach a single page doc that I compiled if this is the case for others. I rounded the percentages for readability. I hand these out to people at my work when they "need" to take a test (Air Force EPR) and have been largely successful at getting them addicted to CLEPs too! My story has a slow start, but as soon as I found this site I haven't been able to stop! Thanks to everyone on here for all of the great advice and support!

These figures are based on a majority of enlisted personnel that more often than not sit an exam cold without any study prep and really not reflective on those who do prepare. Of course if they used the InstantCert Flashcard Study System the PASS rate would be at 100%!!

I recommend InstantCert every chance I get, but when these guys only need one test to satisfy the education portion of their yearly review it hardly seems worth it to them. I usually tell them to try A&I Lit first to get a feel for the process, or a test in the subject in which they have experience. They really aren't all that interested in investing a ton of time into studying, just a pass to be good for the year. I tell them that every test I've studied for with InstantCert I have passed! But I also tell them there are nearly 15 that I've taken without any study and passed. Those are the ones they usually steer towards.

Didn't I read that the new military rules mean that the first attempt is free but you have to pay for follow-up attempts? If this is true, I would expect an INCREASE in the pass rates. If the pass rates increase as a result of the policy change, then it's possibly true that those pass rates are low due to them being free. If the pass rates don't change, then that poses an interesting set of new questions! But, like Shoto, I think we have an amazing pass rate here because of IC. I think there is a thread where people can share their IC pass rates. It's high, up over 80 or 90 if I remember.

EDIT: Found it!

Assuming people calculated their rates correctly, 68% of voting members report a 100% pass rate. (I assume the perfect pass rate people are calculating correctly simply because there is nothing to calculate, but I find it hard to believe that some people have a pass rate of under 20% only because they must attempt no less than 5 exams to get that percentage, which seems incredibly unlikely...but since I've taken stats, I'm going to assume there are some outliers lol)

If you haven't, go enter your pass rate now!

What would your pass rate be if you took one test and failed?

Remarkable IC pass rate and in comparison the DOD list should actually be classified as the "fail" rate instead! :iagree:

The retest policy was changed for the DANTES-funded candidates as of 12/11/2010. It we are going to see an increase, we should start noticing a trend in the last couple of years of data.

The pass rate would be zero. number passed divided by number attempted (using IC) to get your IC rate.

Re: the IC pass thread, I can't imagine there are people here who continue to pay for the service, and are on their 5th, 6th, 7th tests but not passing using IC. I just don't believe it. It's too unlikely a situation.

I can see that if it's a DoD member who tests for free, and failed the 4 or 5 before learning about IC. I reported 90% since that is my overall pass rate including the tests I took before joining, even though my "IC pass rate" would be 100%.
