Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana is a no go for Straigterline ACE Credits

rebel100 Wrote:I would really vet that plan with the target CC...I doubt its going to work as you describe (I don't know near enough about the NJ system to comment specifically). The Big 3, TESC included are rather unique in their broad acceptance of credit from various streams (and their incredibly low residency requirement)...its what makes them the big three.

Credit banking is simply placing credit on a single transcript...its still gonna show where that credit came from. If the target CC won't take SL or ACE directly paying TESC to put it on a list isn't likely to change that. The local CC here in Florida wouldn't even accept FEMA cycled through Frederick CC...just not the way the operation works.

You're right I'm going to have to run this by someone at the CC.

One last question.....is there any difference between a credit bank transcript and an enrolled student evaluated transcript?

Yes, but the official transcript from TESC will still denote the original source of the credit. The ACE credits did not come from TESC, so they will never come from TESC. They will never "come from a regionally accredited school." Putting ACE credits on a transcript from an RA school will not turn them into RA credits. Only courses offered by the school are covered under the accreditation. It is up to each school whether or not it will accept any course regardless of accreditation.

Transfer credits are never accepted via third party. So, if you take a CLEP and it shows up on your TESC transcript, you're STILL going to have to request a new CLEP transcript for your CC. This will be true for every source of credit. All credit that is NOT part of a degree is treated as such, and re-evaluated at every institution. Credit that IS part of a degree is an exception to that rule.
I promise you that when you contact your CC they are not going to have a clue what you're asking. What you're trying is seriously over the heads of the average advisor, however, once your evaluation is done, those credits will be denied (unless your school would otherwise accept them).

Well that is very disappointing. And my plan has seemingly fallen apart. Sad

What's your plan exactly? I'm sure several of us can help you pull it together.

My plan was to launder credits through TESC to my local CC. Because the CC doesn't accept the Cleps I need and the ones they do, if Clep recommends 6 credits they only awards 3 credits.

I was hoping to test out of an associates in economics and transfer it to a 4 year B&M school to finish a BA.

BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

I read one of your other posts on the gen eds. required for an AA at COSC. And it somehow seems simpler then TESC. Does COSC offers AA's in economics or with a concentration in economics? Or just a general AA degree?

Throughout my years of lurking and browsing this and the other forum, I cannot recall reading about anyone transferring an AA from one of the "big 3" to a B&M four year school. I'm sure it's been done but it doesn't seem very common....does an AA from a DL school have much of a negative effect on acceptance to a B&M?

What's your ultimate goal? An AA as a personal accomplishment is important, as an academic accomplishment less so. Having an aa doesn't mean those credits will transfer to a 4 year school. If the 4 year school doesn't take Clep or ace or whatever they still won't accept it in an aa degree....only exception is if they have an articulation agreement with the cc. There is no practical way to use say ALEKS or SL at Harvard or Yale. Likewise I believe the University of Washington doesn't take Clep....rather its part of an aa or not.
