I looked around and couldn't find a thread on this, so here we go. A lot of you know I am looking into a liberal arts degree at TESC. I figured on doing a lot of Straighterline courses, but the more reading I do about all of you doing your CLEP tests. It gets me more curious about them.
I was thinking of taking Straighterline for psychology, sociology,and a few others. Now I guess I'm second guessing that. My big issue is with the test and I know I won't know how difficult they are unless I actually take one(and eventually I'll have to), but I was just hoping to get some advice and anyone who has taken some Straighterline courses please tell me about your experience.

Another question you could ask is why some people have never even considered a Straighterline course. CLEP is accepted at far more schools than Straighterline is. Life sometimes takes unexpected turns that invalidate earlier plans. Some of us prefer CLEP because of its greater acceptance that could matter after that unexpected twist of fate.

CLEPs are more widely accepted outside of the Big Three universities and take less time since you don't have to do any assignments. I did a couple Straighterline courses and they took much longer than just writing an exam.

I haven't taken any SL courses (or Aleks...) because I definitely prefer studying for and passing a test to working through a course

Thanks everyone, so I think I may just bite the bullet and take a clep (eventually). I'll still probably take some Straighterline courses, but maybe some CLEP tests earlier then anticipated. Does anyone have a good "starting" CLEP? I hear the Analyzing and interpreting literature one is supposedly pretty easy. Also, what about the Composition one? How exactly does that one work?

thanks again everyone I should have joined this site forever ago! Analyzing & Interpreting Literature is a good starting Clep. Basically you have to
1. Read and interpret passages of writng (know w hat the author's saying) and
2. Memorize some literary terms and recognize then in writing.
It's regarded as easy because most people on Earth nowadays have to learn how to read and understand writing 
Check with your school as to whether you need Clep College Composition (which is part Multiple-Choice but also includes 2 mandatory essays that are scored by CollegeBoard) or Clep College Composition Modular (which is only Multiple-Choice and has no essays; it's also said to be the harder of the 2). Either way, those Cleps are regarded to be harder (depending on your writing skills) than A & I Lit.

Thanks, I am going to be going to TESC, if that helps. I actually am trying to figure out the differences between the two composition CLEPS as we speak. I am a bit confused as apparently the comp CLEP at TESC is only worth 3 credits not 6, but you need 6 credits for the Bachelor's. So, I guess I need a comp 2 course, however I don't know if the modular course duplicates or if I just have to find a comp 2 course somewhere else.

Yes, if you're going to TESC take College Composition for 6 credits—it'll fill your English Comp requirements
