Textbook Edition Question/Good Resource to Compare Editions
#1
The syllabus for Microbiology calls for the 11th edition of the text. I have a 9th edition. I contacted the professor but she didn't really answer my question. She basically said that she can only officially recommend the 11th edition.

Is there a good place to find out what the revisions were? I'd love to save the money if possible.

Which college/class/textbook is this? I've had some luck in a similar situation by looking at Amazon reviews for the different editions of the textbook in question. Some reviewers will mention info on the revisions.

I got the same textbook for NMJC's class. Ended up not taking the class though. xD

This Amazon reviewer says the 9th and 10th editions are the same. No info on the 11th ed., unfortunately.

Thanks. I'm thinking about just rolling the dice on this one. Has Microbiology changed since 2007?

Try going to the publisher's web site, and looking up the newest text. Sometimes they'll give a summary of the changes, or show the introductory material for the textbook, and that will list the changes. From that you might be able to ascertain if the edition changes are significant. In the dark ages when I took macro, the newest text had trickle down economics. I ended up going to the library and copying those pages for the newest version. The library had on reserve. I saved myself $. Good luck.

In my Logic class last semester my teacher required the latest edition yet all of his class materials was based on an older version. Although I got the latest version I ended up going back and buying a cheap used copy of the older version. It is unfortunate that teachers and schools aren't more concerned (in my experience) with the great cost the books are for us as students.

For the most part, my college daughter has found that the biggest difference between some of the editions are the page numbers as the professor makes references during discussions and in paperwork. She has always been prepared to share a classmate's current edition if it was absolutely needed (not necessary for the entire course though).
