I restarted my computer and it works now. Big Grin Oh, and Redbox is giving me a free rental for opening an online account and I'll probably be getting Argo with that. Lincoln on BluRay cost me $1.60. I don't know if it's cheaper for standard definition.

We love movies too :coolgleam: Between YouTube, Hulu, Redbox, the library, the $5 box at Wal-Mart, old videotapes, and TV, we're pretty well covered Wink

Redbox is our favorite for new movies...all you need is a little patience to wait for them to get there! The regular DVDs are $1.30, and usually don't have extras. Blu-Rays do but they do cost more.

Also, just look around for the little theaters in your area. Again, you might have to wait longer, but the new movies go there after they are shown in the big theaters. That's our favorite "family treat" because we very rarely take the family to big theaters Smile

I second the suggestion to check your local library. We mostly get movies from the library, they're free and legal, but the libraries here rarely have new movies. We also watch movies on TV whenever they happen to be on (regular channels - not HBO, Cinnemax, etc) and movies and TV shows on YouTube whenever they are on YouTube. We are content getting the movies several years late, but that doesn't apply to you. Smile As you can tell, although we like watching movies, they aren't very important to us, and the movie being new isn't very important to us either. But we will pay to buy movies we love.

We might have to look into Redbox or some of the other programs mentioned (a few I have never heard of). If we are willing to pay! Some movies are worth it, others may not be. Small theaters would be great, too, but I haven't found any in our area.

Sorry I couldn't help you much.

The problem is that I already watched most of the old classics. LOL. So I really have no other option than to watch movies that came out the past couple of years. I used to have a job that had so much free time, I even read halfway down a list of classic books.

Just remember, in the great words of George Costanza, "It's not a lie, if you believe it!"

Essentially if you're not watching in the Cinema you gotta pay. Netflix has movies more or less when they are released on DVD, probably the best choice overall. It also has TV series, but can be limited. HBO is a bit annoying in this respect because they seem to only really offer DVD Box Sets, watching live, or iTunes. Hulu's movies are extremely limited, but their TV selection is quite good.

Netflix had none of the movies I wanted available on DVD and many of them are almost a year old. I'll just drive up to Redbox whenever I want to watch something. Their online search tool is handy because there are a million Redboxes around me and I won't have to check several of them before I come across one with the movie I want.

We have never not been able to find something to watch on Netflix using this site. Occasionally we also rent a blu-ray from Redbox. Once you are signed up with them they send you offers for 50 cents off or free rentals, etc. Redbox have also started a streaming service which we may end up trying out too. We also have a Roku which is great for all those free channels mentioned previously.

It doesn't change the fact that Netflix does not have Argo, Skyfall, Lincoln, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Zero Dark Thirty, and dozens of other critically-acclaimed movies from last year. I've only been able to find a couple of documentaries and Bernie so far. Netflix is mostly good for tv shows, which I don't really have time to get into.

I'm waiting for Redbox to get its streaming service up and running. I signed up to get an email notification. Things might not be different, however, since the studios seem to have a problem with subscription services for streaming. Netflix has struck a deal with Disney which will start in a couple of years and that is pretty much it.

Edit: It looks like it is up and running and the selection still sucks. They also charge $4.99 per rental. What I noticed when renting streaming movies is that many services give you 30 days to watch the movie, but once you start watching it, you only have 24 hours to finish. At least when people rented movies the old way, you could keep the movies for about 5-7 days. Call me cheap, but I am not paying $4-5 for 24 hours.

Yeah - Netflix's selection is not about the latest Hollywood movies, but they have great foreign movies and documentaries. Redbox has more of the Hollywood fair - between them and your local rental store you should be covered. We used to have a great mom and pop rental place that would get in anything you wanted, but alas most of those places have been put out of business by the online streaming. We started using Netflix when ours closed.

Many of the critically-acclaimed movies from last year were independent films and not blockbusters. Netflix doesn't have Amour either, which is supposed to be one of the best foreign films of last year.
