Movies
#1
Okay, I'm one of those movie snobs who likes to watch all of the critically-acclaimed, Oscar-nominated movies. I also like to watch some blockbusters too if they look interesting enough. My problems is that I can't find these movies anywhere for a decent price. I have Netflix Streaming, but most of the good movies from last year aren't available for streaming or even on DVD. I checked Amazon Prime. They don't have any of the movies available for streaming and their rentals are $3.99. I was searching on Redbox's website and I think they might have some of the movies I want at nearby locations. Are there any other alternatives? Blockbuster's website isn't working right now. Are they any better for streaming/downloading or receiving DVDs in the mail?

I'm keeping it legal this year. Some of the federal agencies I'm applying to consider pirating to be a serious crime.

You might buy, watch, and quickly turn around and sell used online. You might see if your public library has lists of newly-added material by type, thus DVDs, that you could haunt online.

It looks like San Antonio has at least one credible second-run cinema, at least for major titles? My hometown still somehow supports several small second-run/indie/arthouse cinemas, though the number has certainly contracted over time.

Yeah, I think we have one dollar-movie theater left. I'm going to try Redbox. I was never impressed with their selection, but it looks like I might be able to track down the movies I want and have a hold placed on them through their website. I'll check the public libraries too. Thanks.

Buy a Roku player. You can find a poopton of movies on the various channels there. Roku can keep you busy for as long as you like.

I'm not quite understanding Roku. Is it just a streaming device and you have to pay for each channel separately? It looks like HBO Go requires an HBO subscription and Amazon Instant Movies requires the purchase of each individual rental at $3.99+ unless you're an Amazon Prime member. I already checked out Amazon Prime and the latest and greatest movies are not available under the service. I don't mind watching movies on my laptop and I can easily hook it up to my tv. If I were happy with Amazon, Hulu, or Netflix; I would just forgo a streaming device.

Roku has probably 1,000 free channels. Some of them are listed and some of them are private channels. Amazon Instant and Netflix are only the tip of the iceberg. I have found university channels to watch an unlimited amount lectures on interesting subjects. Lots of good films on free channels.

I know you don't want to deal with piracy movies, however, if one didn't download the movie online is it considered piracy? I know a website it's the same format as Youtube, you just hit play and watch the movie. No downloading. I don't believe (of course my assumption) that you will leave a watermark activity that way, so I don't think one can get caught this way. I don't recommend or am I advertising piracy movies in any shape or form but I know a couple websites on top of my head that my friends use. They have the newest updated movies in theaters. Since you stated you want to keep it 100% legal, I won't mention it. I use Netflix but the movie selection is horrible. I do keep it 100% legal, whenever I have enough money to actually go to the theaters to watch a new released film I will. But I tell you, when I was pursing my undergrad at the big three, I barely had any time to actually sit down and watch a movie. It was work and school. Sheesh! When I start my Masters degree in the summer, I know I will have more of a heavy workload. I don't know how I will find free time but hopefully I will to enjoy myself and watch a movie or two.

Do those channels have movies like Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, and Beasts of the Southern Wild? I'm looking for all of the critically-acclaimed movies from last year. I just rented Lincoln from Redbox, but I can't get it to work. I have the latest version of PowerDVD and my laptop is labeled BluRay. This is pissing me off!

Right now, cable companies are complying to requests from movie studios to reveal the accounts of the IP addresses caught downloading their movies. The cable companies will give a few warnings by email and then start throttling your connection speed. I don't think they're tracking those who are illegally streaming movies, but it's still illegal. The jobs I'm applying to will ask questions about that and they will have behavior analysts looking for deception.
