Yes, Arizona State University according to a small sample list in an old (2009) business catalog. There should be a list compiled somewhere on their website, but I'm not finding it at the moment. There is a short one on page 36 of the Start to Finish guide: https://www.excelsior.edu/469

If you are considering non-traditional credits within your undergrad degree at EC, then I think the real issue is how much of the degree(s) was traditional vs non-traditional credit for each acceptance to graduate school. I have no idea how to find that answer.

You can get into any of those schools with a degree from EC. Your personal profile will matter more than your school's profile. ASU and UA are good schools but people have attended far more illustrious institutions out of EC and the like.

Well, i have a lot of credits from other schools. I am just getting things sent to EC to see how things shake out.

This is what I am going in with:
14 credit hours from Devry
15 from Bossier Parrish Community College
AAS in Computer Network Systems from ITT (I know, probably won't get anything, but maybe something?)
I was in national guard at one point, so I had my AARTS record, which really just shows my basic training and M1A1 Armored crewman training. I had combat lifesavers at my unit but it doesn't show up there.
Thus far I have 3 credits at Glendale Community College (english 101), taking two undergrad business classes this spring.

Have a few technical certifications: A+, CCENT, CCNA

I'm still trying to figure stuff out.

Here is my situation:
I have an AAS from ITT, 15 Computer related credits at Bossier Parrish Community College, 14 credits from Devry (Math, business, computer), some military experience that might net me something, and one english class here at Glendale Community College, with me taking two business classes there this spring. I also have the following certifications: A+, CCENT, CCNA

I also have over $60k in federal student loan debt, and about $30k in private loans that are stupidly high interest. I need to make more money to pay this off, which means I have to have my bachelors degree, just to remove a barrier to entry. On the same token going to school at least half time prevents interest from being capitalized, which would allow me to pay down more on my loans. I'm really just aiming to chop downt he ultra high interest private loans and manage the rest as longer term debt.

I was thinking of getting an MBA, with a possible double major in Computer Engineering or computer Science

Right now I just want to hurry up and get a usable bachelors degree so I can remove a potential barrier to entry in my career field (networking).

I am trying to figure out what bachelors I want to get, and whether I plan on trying to get a degree at EC, or just using it to get awarded credits I wouldn't elsewhere, with the purpose of transferring them to a local school here in Arizona. To that end, maybe I could specifically hammer out GenEd stuff there that would transfer to Glendale Community College, and perhaps some business classes as well. (Via CLEP/DSST/Straighterline). I could then just do my senior year at NAU to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Technical Management. That might be slower for me, but might leave a more positive impression than a Bachelors degree from excelsior.

I work in IT, and a lot of them want something Computer Science related. I do not feel that the IT degrees that EC offers would leave a very good impression. You either go for the real deal of Computer Science or some other engineering degree. Any watered down Computer type bachelors wouldn't help as much, and may even look tacky. So, if I were to get something from Excelsior it might be more along the lines of a business degree, which although not computer related, might make me a more well rounded candidate. In my field I won't be doing any software programming, nor engineering new hardware, so unless I change direction career wise the purpose of the CS or CE degree is just to impress.

Perhaps I might get that business degree from excelsior first to hurry up and have a 4 year, then if I want to pursue a bachelors from NAU afterwards I could do so, followed by getting a useful masters degree

Ideally I would be doing a bachelors computer science or engineering. However I really just don't have the time to commit to doing to starting over from scratch, especially since I work full time and am working on technical certifications. The only possible way to accomplish that without repeating too much is to get my Devry credits to Glendale Community college, hope some of my itt credits and army training gets me something, and get a ton of credits via CLEP/ACE/DTTS. I am already way way way deep in student loan debt and need to start paying down heavily on the high interest private loans, preferably while I am in school so i can make a dent on principle. The longer I delay getting my bachelors the more opportunity cost is missed to make more money to get myself out of this hole.


I know that is a lot of debt I have. I was quite immature in my younger days, dropped out of school, went to another one, moved, etc. I am now 30 trying to move on with my life and achieve something.

I figure that testing out of the math would be much better for pursuing engineering. I just do terribly in lectures for maths. It isn't like I am incapable of it, I just have trouble paying attention to that stuff and keeping up with the teacher. I can either choose to just copy everything down or follow through with him logically. I am a bit ADD (Got adderall now, yay) I also have auditory processing disorder, which makes it more of a strain to listen to people for sustained periods of time, and also makes it harder for me to discern what they are saying. Combine that with the teaching style of most maths teachers and I have a bit of trouble, especially since I don't always manage my time well (getting better). I think studying on my own with good resources at my own pace would ensure greater success in hard maths.

I am most likely looking at NAU, as they look to be more progressive, and a HELL of a lot cheaper than ASU or UofA. (for any followup bachelors or Masters)

I think if I am going to get a bachelors at EC, it would ideally be the Bachelor of Science in Business with concentration in Management Information Systems .

However, that depends on how many credits transfer over. Unless I get a significant amount of ITT credits, I would likely have to make up by testing out of an awful lot. Dealing with a lot of unknowns right now.

Let me assure you that you have found a wonderful forum. The members have a lot of experience to share. (Be sure to read lots of old posts.) There are many business majors and several have continued to MBA programs.

Be careful about trying to transfer a partial degree from EC or any non-traditional program to graduate from a traditional program. The policies at the school that you want to graduate from are the ones to follow.

Also, consider starting another thread so more members will see it to help you with your degree planning.
