Proctor issue at TESC
#1
I'm taking my first class with TESC. I was unsure of how the proctor situation worked, so I asked TESC and they sent me a list of Proctors near me. I selected one and submitted the form which they approved. Last Wednesday I called to schedule a time to come take it, and not only is my proctor no longer working at that library, they no longer do proctoring at all, and they can't find the packet they received. The manager said she remembers seeing it and was going was going to notify TESC.

I notified TESC on Thursday and also my professor and have not heard from them. I tried to make an advising appt first, but they were all booked up. I finally see the testing center has a number, so I'm calling first thing this morning but what can I expect? It's 30% of my grade and my employed reimburses only for C- or better... so I'd have to make a 100% on everything else to get reimbursed if I'm unable to take my final...

TESC will probably want to contact your proctor themselves. My guess is they'll understand and give you some extra time. If not you may want to look into filing for a course extension. I'm not sure how that works, but that may be useful..?? I highly doubt that TESC will dock you when it was your proctor who messed things up.

Sorry that happened, and best of luck to you.

The proctoring thing was a real headache for me too. This is the time of August when none of the schools around here are open and nobody offers proctoring this week. The local library also has it's own rule against providing proctoring services. I ended up getting in touch with an old professor at my community college. Even though classes are out and the testing center is closed I took my midterm with my old professor. My only advice to everyone is to make sure they have everything planned out and that they contact the proctor before sending in the proctor form.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

When I was taking courses at TESC, everyone I spoke to at the Office of Test Administration (testing@tesc.edu or 609-984-1181) was beyond helpful and good at their jobs. (Definitely not the experience you will find with all other TESC departments.) Give the testing office a call directly as soon as you can, explain the situation, and I am certain they will have a plan of action for you to follow. Whatever you are told on the phone, follow up with a confirmation email (i.e., "To confirm our telephone discussion, my understanding of the best plan of action for (X) situation is...and this will result in no penalties in cost or grade.") and request a written response to forward to your course mentor so everyone is on the same page, and it is documented that you notified everyone and had agreement that your grade will not be penalized.

It will help if you pull up that list of available proctors and start calling for an immediate replacement to have available for the testing office to rush ship your test. At this time of year, libraries will probably be your best bet. It does not have to be your most local library since that is probably the one that lost their proctor, but this time of year tends to be registration time for Fall semester at most B&M colleges, and at least at the schools near me, they are typically very limited on their time availability to proctor external students because they are often busy with placement testing for their own students. You will probably have better luck, more time blocks to choose from, and a less hectic testing environment if you avoid schools being slammed with registration.

Okay, here's an update. Called the other Proctor in my area and they said they could do the proctor assuming TESC agreed and the local library would deliver the proctor packet to them. Called TESC Testing center and had to leave a message. I still have not heard back from them. Called the library again and asked if they had found the packet and they said the manager wasn't in and they weren't sure but that she would be in tomorrow (today).

I'm so stressed out....

I went ahead and filled out a proctor form for the university (the proctor in my area that said they will do the test) and sent a follow-up email to testing@tesc.edu following up on my ticket. I told them they they agree to proctor the exam and that the library still hasn't told me whether or not they have found the packet sent to them.

This morning, no response to my phone call or my email... I also CC'd my professor on all emails to testing@tesc.edu but he hasn't written back to me acknowledging the situation either.

Not that it matters but I have made 100s on all the discussion questions and written assignment so far in the class... so it isn't like I'm a bad student trying to get a fake extension for my midterm.
