Conspiracy Theories and the Government
#1
Hey all I came across this video while I was doing some research on 9/11 for school. It is a bit lengthy and the video quality isn't very good but it's well worth watching all the way through. Discussion welcome just keep it clean.

The Ultimate Con#

I know this is a very controversial topic, but it's one well worth discussing.

I thought all of this got debunked a while ago? I tend not to get into these conspiracy theories because it lowers my IQ. However, I know a bunch of people who are big conspiracy whack-jobs and it has done little for them. One of my coaches, who is well-known in the UFC, is into those governmental conspiracies nonsense. Aside from his thoughts about 9/11, he believes we all come from a 10th Planet that is hidden in our solar system(Planet X theory). A planet where an advance civilization created us. Oh, and he is a big advocate for marijuana -- might be the underlining link to all these conspiracy theories.. :roflol:

Anyhow, here's a link I thought was interesting: 9/11 Conspiracy Theories - Debunking the Myths - World Trade Center - Pentagon - Flight 93 - Popular Mechanics. It hit on the majority of the "valid" points they were able make in that video you posted.

And I don't trust people who wear glasses during interviews. It shows a self-esteem issue and sign of mistrust.

Oh, and Lou Dobbs is an idiot, but that is just my opinion. Wink

My study was on the conspiracy theory itself, I am not "reopening the case" by any means, I am just studying about it. As you can tell that video was made at least six years ago. This stuff is part of America's history now, true or untrue, and embarrassing or not; we should be educated about our history.

Thanks for the link submissiongrappler, I'm almost done with this study but I'll def check it out. Oh and I'm trying to be nice here, but I don't get where that comment about the people with glasses came from. I don't remember anybody wearing shades in any of the interviews.

You should probably re-visit the first 20 minutes of the documentary. You will see that interview between the three guys who directed a film about 9/11 (I can't think of the film name). You will see the Iraq "war" veteran concealing his eyes during the interview. I help BP as an intelligence collector (fancy word for interrogator) from time to time and we look for little things like concealing the eyes, shifting of the eyes, hand movements, etc., Basic form of body language. The moment someone tries to conceal their eyes it raises a red flag for me. Especially if that individual is giving a testimony.

I didn't watch the whole thing. Just the first 20 minutes or so. I can't really comment about the rest of the interviews but the way he was acting reminded me a situation not too long. Hence, I brought it up.

Ok, well I wasn't really impressed with the first 20 min. They didn't start bringing in good evidence and scientists until about midway through, maybe even later, which is why I suggested watching it all the way through. I'm really not interested in the opinions I just need to get down to the facts. Most of those interviews were people with opinions. However there were some good facts worth noting, and those were the topics I used in my study.

Here are some facts:

It would have taken massive amounts of time and manpower to rig a building (never mind the two tallest buildings in NYC) for such "perfect" demolition, synchronized with a 747 slamming into it. The idea that government could have gotten away with this is absurd.

Also, we all know that the government can't keep a secret. During the Manhattan Project (building the atomic bomb, WWII) only 7 people knew what they were actually building, turns out at least 2 of them were Russian spies. The government can't keep a secret.

Here's an opinion:
This conspiracy stuff is absolute garbage.
People need to shut up and be thankful they live in a free country, not a perfect country, a free country.
If they are so freaked out about it they are welcome to go live in Europe

The people who believe this stuff have little to no understanding of basic physics or economics. I see it now with the "Amurika wants an internet kill switch to take over your facebook!" Sorry, looking somewhat from the inside, they have no idea what they are screaming about. But because these things affect national security, the people who know can't talk much about the issues, which cedes the playing field to the other team. And the public doesn't know who is right, just that one side is making claims and the other side does a sometimes lousy job refuting them.

Even when people know the truth there are those who intentionally lie to gain power like this. In the 1980 election Reagan was killing Carter for ending the B-1 bomber program. Carter finally had Reagan read into the F-117 and B-2 programs in the design phases, and explained that the B-1 bomber was a piece of crap that had no business flying and was foisted on the public by contractors pushing around Congress. Reagan said "wow, that's really impressive, thanks" and walked out to his next stump speech screaming about how Carter was weak on defense for killing the B-1 project. And Carter could say nothing in his own defense, just like Eisenhower couldn't until the Garry Powers shootdown proved he wasn't asleep at the wheel after all.

People who think that the US killed its own citizens are truly misguided.
The government is up to a lot. But most of it involves consolidating power and robbing us of our liberties slowly over time by offering to give us a little comfort if we give up a little more liberty. Government run education, healthcare, retirement etc is part of the plan. Its all in the name of our own safety but at the heart of it is a desire to control people. Those who advocate "change" are really asking for power to make decisions that affect other peoples' lives. Power is nothing more than the ability to enact change. So be careful of any politician who wants to enact change.

Thanks for all the comments everybody, I handed in my paper today so I'm officially done with this study! I was supposed to look at both sides of the case and report on the facts. Thanks submissiongrappler for the link, it was very helpful.

My 2 cents: Somewhere between some and most of the known conspiracies are or in a large part are true. And, of the people who "believe in them" there is a much smaller percentage who have access to actual facts through original research into primary resources or by personal contacts to have this knowledge. For someone to pass judgment based on anything garnered from "the media" or "opinion" or college where "opinion" is taken as fact on a regular basis, and textbooks where facts are substantially changed into agenda politics is ludicrous at best.
