TECEP Exams - Have You Taken Any?
#1
So far I have only taken DSST, so I am hesitant to take TECEP. But, I need UL credits at COSC and I'm running out of stuff to take. Gotta take these to graduate...

Are they hard? I've heard they are difficult.

How did you study? I guess reading the textbook is the only way, and most painful too!

There isn't much info in the Specific Feedback section, no IC cards, etc...

I'm thinking about taking these 3: Marketing Communication, Sales Management, Advertising

Please let me know your thoughts Smile

I took the Networking Technology TECEP back on november, my study time
was about 18 days, mostly some study guides for network+, some videos,
and another study guide. When I took the exam, it was way more difficult
than I expected(I did not pass) . I recommend you to stick to the textbook that is the best
way to go. While I am sure that the study guides are enough for some
people. At least for me, to get all the information in, the best way would
be the textbook.

I will retake on march.

My son took a Comptia network certification-prep course at the CC and scored 97 percent, but he did not pass the Networking Technology TECEP. He did not think he needed to do any prep for the TECEP, but in retrospect, he should have reviewed the textbook they use. TESC did not give him a score on the TECEP, so we don't know if he missed it by 1 point or 10. The only feedback he received was "NC" -- no credit, no details.

I just took an e-pack exam yesterday, which is essentially a TECEP only you get access to ungraded quizzes to test your preparation along the way. (It is a course not offered online anywhere else that I could find, or in any other format other than classroom.) It was tougher than I expected, and like others said, you must study the related textbook. With one complete read-through of the text and a few skip-around brush-ups of weaker areas (and it's an area I use in my career so some work experience), I'm fairly certain I passed though I will not find out until the CR or NC is returned. It was tougher than anticipated, though. Definitely more intensive than a CLEP or DSST would have been, given my experiences with CLEP and DSST.

Thinking about just going to school for another 5 months and finishing up my remaining UL credits that way.

After reading the replies, studying the forum, etc - TECEP is way too intensive for my learning style, I don't think I have the patience to read a textbook for a month and then go take the exam, still having a chance to fail.

If TECEP is $99 plus some fees to take, call it $120 TOTAL... My local school is $160 and I'm guaranteed to pass if I go to class.

Certain TECEPs might be more difficult than clep.dsst but still doable. Pick up the exact textbook mentioned in the factsheet (though I pick up the last ed, much cheaper than the current ed). I have never read a textbook all the way through, I skim the bolded, italicized, bulleted sections of each chapter and drill on the chapter summaries. I then take advantage of textbook companion sites: powerpoints, quizzes, audio files (if they have them) and any other material. Also, the quizlet site is good for designing multiple choice quizzes from the flashcards. The three exams you mentioned have been taken by forum members and have a reputation of being quite doable (unlike some others that are difficult). If memory serves they are multiple choice? Try an advanced search as well as the specific feedback section. If your local school has a grading method where you only need to go to class, that might also be a good idea. Good luck in whatever method you choose.
