How much would this degree plan differ from EC's BS in business with a concentration in risk management and insurance?

"*Students enrolling on or after 10/1/11 will be required to complete 21 upper level credits in business (9 in the concentration), in place of the 12 advanced level credits. Courses classified as Upper level must be junior-senior level (300 - 400) and can be classified as a Business core, concentration, and/or elective course.

So basically they are going to count upper level classes in the business core.. so same business.. I dont think they had many people graduating with only the 12 upper level classes anyway... i guess they do it to sound more strict, waste of time and paper in my opinion as nothing is going to change in practice

Below is a copy of an email I received from EC. Please note that it is not up to date as EC changed its written english and general ed requirements. It will however let you see how various insurance related exams will work in the risk management or the general business degree. I don't know if you can completely test out of the risk management degree because of the EC Business Policy capstone class but you should be able to test out of the insurance related classes with CPCU and ARM. Also so you are aware CPCU gives discounts on its exams to students so enroll somewhere that you are taking a college class even if it's your local CC because the exams will be half the price.


Degree Plan – Bachelor of Science, Risk Management and Insurance

Students will need the following to satisfy the Bachelor of Science, Risk Management (BRI) degree requirements:

60 credits in arts and sciences to include:

- 3 credits in the Written English requirement

- 9 credits in Humanities electives

- Macroeconomics

- Microeconomics

- 9 credits in Social Sciences electives

- Math at the level of Precalculus or above

- Statistics

- Organizational Behavior (AIM*45 will apply here.)

- Ethics (CPCU*510 will apply here.)

45 credits in Business to include:

Rashaun,

Excelsior states that you need 15 credits in the concentration, nine being upper level. Meaning, things like Principles of Supervision, Human Resource Management, and Intro to Business would have to be substituted for something pertaining to Risk Management and Insurance. I do not even know if there are any tests that satisfy the concentration. Nor do I know if Money and Banking and Business Law II would satisfy the concentration's upper level requirement (though, they do seem tangentially related).

As always, checking with an academic adviser is key, as I can only speculate.

The exams from American Institute for Chartered Property Underwriters will work for the risk management or the general business degee. The CPCU and ARM exams are also mostly upper level. I have a chart from excelsior that shows the exam equivalencies but I can't post it because 1- its too long and 2- the formatting gets messed up. If anyone needs the chart feel free to PM and I can email it to you.
