Which school?
#1
I was just asked what school I am going to.

I do not have that formally locked down. I believe I want to go to Georgia State in Atlanta and they do indeed accept CLEP.

What happens if I have not chosen a school before starting my CLEP tests?

Thank you,

Wendy

When you sit for an exam, you are given the opportunity to specify a destination school for the notification of your score, and that doesn't cost anything more. However you don't have to select one if you don't wish to. However if you later wish to send your scores to a school you'll have to pay the transcript fee (which is like $20) to do so, even if you didn't originally send them anywhere.

So, IMO if you have a good idea of where you expect to go, just designate that school as your destination for the tests, and if you change your mind later, you can always send a transcript to the other school. It will cost the same as if you had not sent it at all.

I think both CLEP and DSST hold the results of your exams for 20 years, so you'll have plenty of time to determine where to send them. Wink

I think it's a good idea when you start seriously testing to have a plan worked out. The plan doesn't have to be set in stone, but know what major you want and which tests you have to take to get there.

IMHO the worst risk of not having a school selected is that you may end up taking tests that the school doesn't accept or that don't apply towards your major. Learning is almost always good and CLEPping can be fun, it could be a waste of time to take tests until you're 100% sure that they are actually getting you to your end goal.

Thank you for this.

So if I pick Georgia State University (which is were I am very likely to go), CLEP will send my transcript there, however, I have never been there, nor and I enroled there, so what will GSU do with my info?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they will discard your results since you are not enrolled. If you do enroll afterward, you will have to resend the transcript. Believe it or not, that is what TESC did to me. I had not enrolled yet, so even though I had scores sent there they had me send them again because they didn't know who I was.

So, can I enroll in school but not attend?

I am trying to CLEP my way thought as much as possible before having to set foot in the classroom so it may be a while before I "attend".

Thank you!

I'm sure it varies from school to school, so you'd need to check with GSU to be sure.

However, I was under the impression that many (or most) schools hold on to "unknown" transcripts for up to 6 months to compensate for any potential timing issues relating to the matriculation of new/transferring students at the school. I'm pretty sure Excelsior and COSC do that anyway. And for both of them you can also pay them to bank your credits if you don't elect to enroll right away (or at all.)

I'm doing the same thing at COSC... I've applied and been accepted, but haven't enrolled yet. I will be doing so however, since there are a few classes that I need to take directly through the school. Once I take those classes I'll probably go inactive though and just accumulate CLEP/DSST credits until graduation time next year.

Worst case, if they don't take them, you can always just have them all re-sent when you're ready for $20 (or $30 or whatever that transcript fee is.)

I don't know how it works at B&M colleges. I am surprised to hear this about TESC. A member of the forum just posted in the last day or two that EC kept their scores well beyond the 6 month time period that is often mentioned for non-enrollees. I thought that was awesome to know.

So, I may just go ahead and start taking the CLEP exams and not worry about enrolling just yet. I can figure that out later.

So it is $20 for each CLEP test to be transfered? 5 tests, $100 to transfer?

I did also see that it is free to send the transcripts to your employer at the time you take the test. I will be doing this because I may be able to be re-imbursed by my employer for the $77 test fee.
