Does COSC have a concentration in social science?
Was interested in COSC until I saw TESC has BA in Social Science. Hmmm...

Here's a full list of the concentrations that they will award:
Concentrations (Majors) and CPS Forms at Charter Oak State College Make sure you look at both the left and the right side as there are two different columns. One column shows the concentrations that you can get using only COSC classes and the other shows the degrees that they will award, but that cannot be completed entirely using COSC classes alone.
What do you want to be when you grow up?

Haha I see. Well I'm in the Medical/billing coding field right now for a doctors office. It's full time and it supports me right now. I kind of want to stay here and grow with the company. A supervisor or a higher position in the future. I am only 20 years young. When I was 18 I wanted to be in law enforcement and noticed the bachelor requirements for some agencies down here. Hence the reason why I went for Criminal Justice. Well...I don't want to work in law enforcement anymore, and I have all this Criminal Justice credit. Some one informed me on the forums that I can actually use this credit for a BA in Social Science with TESC. Social Science is probably more acceptable with more employers than just a CJ degree. As CJ is mostly pertained to law enforcement etc etc... Bottom line is... I will be doing a Master's in Counseling or Social work after my undergrad. Maybe a school counselor or...a social worker hmm.

Ahhhhhh.... yes that makes sense. I'm usually the first one to say that in many jobs, the undergrad doesn't matter, however, a CJ degree for something that's not in law enforcement is a little unusual. It does sound like Social Science would be better. It couldn't hurt to see if there is anything that appeals to you on the COSC list just in case.

I'm just kind of confused on how it works though. CJ credits are liberal arts right? And some are social science? If I transferred them to COSC, would COSC only apply them to the CJ concentration ?

Wow... sorry this is totally out of my realm of knowledge. I have no idea how those would apply and which majors they would work for. I do know that at COSC, if they don't fit neatly into one that works for you, you could work to create your own individualized studies program, but you could also do that at TESC too with their LDAS.
Sorry I can't be of more help on this one.. I think you just may need to talk to someone at COSC and get a suggestion on which concentration you can use your credits for.

If you find out any more info - make sure to share! Of course I'll also be very curious to find out what you decide too!

Will do!
One more quick question.... On the concentration (Major) page..I am looking both left and right. On the left side, says "Concentrations that can be completed using Charter Oak State College courses exclusively". On the right side, "Concentrations that can be completed by combining
Charter Oak's online courses with other credits." My question is, I see the concentration I am interested on the left side which is Criminal Justice (Since I can't find a Social Science concentration lol) but since it says "Concentrations that can be completed using COSC courses exclusively", does that mean I can't pick that concentration and have too take the courses only at COSC? I have about 60 CJ credits transferring in, and if I'm reading it right I wouldn't be able to pick Criminal Justice at COSC since I have to take "all" the courses "exclusively" at COSC? Or maybe I'm reading it wrong. Lol. Thanks for all your help answering these questions!
Oh and I'm sorry I think you did mention about this above as well, but just to clarify lol

They are just telling you that they affer all the courses you need to complete the concentration at COSC. For some concentrations they don't offer all the required couses and those have to be completed in conjunction with courses from other institutions.
COSC courses are a great deal for Ct residents. The in state tuition is comparable to CC here in Florida. For an out of stater the cost is much higher like around $825 per 3 cr hour course.
There is no way I could afford to complete my degree at COSC if I had to take all the classes there...just not financially possible.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.
