Might end up doing a second bachelors anyway

So my masters program at NCU is going to have to slow down so that I can use my reimbursement at work both this year and next. That means that after conferral on June 3, I should be able to start working on a second bachelors at TESC if I choose to.

My choices are: Math/Nat Sci, Computer Science which will both require taking an actual course to get needed credit, or some other interesting degree that I can test out of.

For comp sci I need: data structures, discrete math, and 13 comp sci electives, some being upper and 3 being 100 level.

For Math/Nat Sci I need: 6 UL science credits, +18 more additional credits to meet the 24 new credit requirement

I am bummed that I realized I cannot fly through my MBA this year due to financial reasons but also excited about the opportunity to get back into the CLEP/DSST/TECEP/Straighterline/Penn Foster mode.

So what are the degrees that can be completed with testing or Penn Foster/SL.com correspondence courses?

I am interested in the following topics: history, psychology, anything with math or science, management, economics

I think history and psychology are pretty well covered through testing options but am I missing another degree that can be achieved without taking a bunch of actual courses?

For the Natural science/math if you only need 6 upper level that can be knocked out with the Global Environmental Change course One upper level 6 credit course. Then you could do your other 18 credits by testing (are you sure those 18 can be any level) Race to save the planet DSST does not duplicate the course and it is easy after the course, Then you Have a choice of CLEP/DSST science exams or Straighterline/Aleks math courses you haven't taken. Good luck with whatever course you choose. My knowledge is rather limited to the NS/M or History concentrations

EDIT; You should not have to wait until after conferral to start working on this. I finished in May was awarded in june and immediately started on History before the Sept conferral.

What if you do something totally unrelated to your current degree like psych? I know that you can test out of psych and if you do a search, you're likely to find a couple of degree plans. If you can't find one, just email me, I made one up for DH when he was considering doing the BA in Psych at TESC.

I have briefly considered doing a psych degree for a second degree (and it was what I had originally signed up for at COSC until I switched to biz admin)... I'll probably do it if I'm not totally burned out once I finish my masters, or I might if I don't get accepted to the masters program I want. I think that it seems like a decent second degree to have. Since I'm in sales and sales management, I always thought that I could potentially use a psych major to show that I understand people, which would be good for both the customer service and management aspects of my job.

Anyhow.. just a thought. I think it really boils down to what interests you more. Or, you could picture yourself in an interview for your dream job and think about how you would talk about your education. Which degree gives you more to talk about in the interview? Is there one of the test-out degrees that would give you even a slight advantage over your competition for a job?

History has a good chunk of credits you can test out of but not all of them.

dude, i want to do the same thing as you do. my degree is conferred in 6 days from excelsior, and i have 3 weeks before my MBA starts. I've completed all of the Straighterline classes, and they are just sitting there waiting to be transferred to an institution.

If I can do that 6 credit test that someone mentions above, I think I will still need 1 more Upper Division class and I am good to go.

jobee - I'm thinking of doing this because TESC enrollment is good for a whole year and graduation costs are neglible.

Burbuja - I was considering psych as well. It relates to management and marketing very well.

Thanks for the info everyone but from what I was told. I have to get 24 new credits that post to my transcript after conferral. This is what TESC advisors told me repeatedly. This is why I am so screwed. I took ALEKs college algebra pre-conferral so those 3 credits are wasted.

I wouldn't mind doing history, psych, math/nat sci or humanities. Humanities at TESC is english and humanities courses as far as I can tell.

My question about the 24 new credits is do they have to be in the major or can they just be any old credits? I'll have to ask TESC this to be sure.

Also I heard that your area of study can only transfer in 9 credits or something like that. This could be a problem for math/nat sci since I am using some from the BSBA CIS.
