I'm going to be transferring in 120 credits to TESC, not taking any classes there, online or otherwise (if I can help it!).

Will I just not have a GPA on my transcript?

My previous GPA from a brick and mortar school was a 3.82, so if possible I'd like that to show up someplace. I wanted to try and graduate with honors too.

I'm not entirely sure about TESC, but if I recall correctly, you need to take classes through them or take TECEPs to generate a GPA with them.

I know Excelsior requires 60 graded credits before an individual is eligilble to receive honorifics with their graduation... Which kinda sucks for me, because I'm sitting at about 41 graded credits with a 3.85 gpa, and I'm not going to take 7 extra classes if I can help it just to get the honorifics.

I'm not sure how many graded credts TESC requires or if they even actually give honorifics.

*Edit* whoops, my math escapes me sometimes, I had more graded credits than I gave myself due

The only way to have a gpa with TESC is to take courses through them but only those courses will be applied to the gpa. So essentially all your credits being transferred in will not count toward a gpa. They (your transferred grades) will still show up on your transcipts but they are not calculated into your gpa at all.

With Excelsior, do graded exams (such as DSST before refresh) count as graded credits? (I hope so, because with graded exams + coursework transferred into EC, I am at 53 graded credits so far.)

The only honors TESC does is either the Arnold Fletcher Award

The Arnold Fletcher Award recognizes Thomas Edison State College bachelor’s degree graduates for achieving excellence in nontraditional learning. Award recipients are selected from each graduating class. The following areas are examples of appropriate nontraditional learning modes:

Advanced Level Practicum
Credit for Courses Taught
Thomas Edison State College Courses (online, Guided Study and e-Pack®)
Licenses/Certificates/Registries
Military Training Programs Evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE)
ACE
Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)
Testing Programs
Students selected for the award are required to have earned a minimum total of 90 credits from nontraditional learning.

Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society
Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society was established in 1945 as a means of recognizing academic excellence for nontraditional students. Thomas Edison State College was accepted into membership by the society in 1996, with the establishment of the Lambda Tau Chapter.

For induction into this society, Thomas Edison State College students must meet the following requirements:

Have an overall Thomas Edison State College grade point average of 3.2.
Have earned from Thomas Edison State College at least 24 graded credits of which 12 credits are in Liberal Arts/Sciences.
Student members will be selected only from the top 20 percent of the group of qualified students

I would think you would not qualify for either award because of not taking any classes at TESC. I don't think I will qualify for an award and I have taken 9 graded credits with a 3.9 GPA and 77 credits since enrolling at TESC.

As far as I know, yes. In fact, only 7 of my credits have been actually done through EC, and the other 34 have been done through tests (Uexcel College writing) and classes (PF Info lit & 11 transfered classes from B&Ms)

I don't think TESC gives a grade for ECEs. I am going to take one class from them just to get a GPA. It's kinda nice though, when I take the ECEs I don't have to worry about getting a good grade, just passing. Then I will work really hard to do well in one class, and if I do good I will have a good GPA.

As someone said further up, TESC still prints the gpa of your transfered courses on your transcript, they just don't use them to calculate your TESC GPA.

There are many schools that have masters programs or other advanced degrees that ask for transcripts from any place that you've gotten college credit, and calculate your GPA themselves.

Would you really prefer to slack off on some tests where the 'grades don't matter, only a pass does' (for now) to have them come back and prevent you from getting into a masters program in the future?

That's a good point, I didn't think of that. But I'm not going to "slack off," I'm just going to study hard, do my best, and not stress out over getting an A.
