Need Advice - Shadowless - 04-05-2010 I have been given 3 options on completing my BA degree through Thomas Edison. a. Complete a BA in Natural Science and Math through the military program. My TA will cover the costs and I must take 18 credits. b. Being in the military and a NJ resident I can pay the NJ in-state fees and remain in the Natural Science and Math program and have to complete 12 credits. or c. Opt out of the Military degree program, go with the NJ in state plan, and change my BA degree to Liberal Studies. I would have to take ZERO credits, I would have to pay about 1800$ in total costs to get the degree. So my question is, which would you suggest? I am looking to start their Masters Degree program once I receive my BA. Is anyone taking a Masters degree course that can offer any feedback in reguards to how hard these classes are and how many are doable at once? Need Advice - Lindagerr - 04-05-2010 If the only reason you want the BA is to be able to go on for the MA I would say go for the one you need no credits for. I know it is $1800, but what is your time worth? If you have to actually take 12 or 18 credits in classes not testing, that is a lot of time. Some colleges tell you expect anywhere from 100-150 hours for a 3 credit class, so multiply that by the total credits (say 12) that is 400-600 hours if you pay the $1800 that means your time is worth more then $3.50-$4/hour. Just my 2c. Need Advice - marianne202 - 04-05-2010 I agree with Linda, but I would say that part of your choice should be made based on the Master's you plan to pursue or what you plan to do with your degrees. If you just want a BA to get an MA then the zero credit would be the fastest. If you want to teach then the natural sciences and math background would benefit you in the long run. If you would need the other science and math classes for your Master's then it makes sense to get them done at zero cost. I think basing your decision on your master's requirements and future plans makes better sense than just considering the cost / time factor. Just my 2 cents...for what little they are worth! Good luck! Need Advice - Shadowless - 04-07-2010 Thanks for the tips everyone! |
