I am taking my first CLEP exam on January 6, 2010. I just started studying for the US History I exam. I was told that the Psych or Intro to Sociology are easier the first time you take the exam. I need the History and either the Psych or Soc class. NEED FEEDBACK PLEASE.

My very first CLEP was US History-1 but if I had to do it again I would go with Intro to Soc. Good Luck!

Shotojuku, how long did it take you to study for US History I? I believe that is next on my list of tests to take...next Tuesday, as a matter of fact. With a week of intense studying, do you think it is doable?

Us History Or Psych? - ShotoJuku - 12-22-2009

As a rule, for me, I always studied THREE WEEKS for every exam.

Study Time: How I Did It…

Pre-Study-Prep: Obtain or set up whatever materials I will need to study (IC Flashcards, REA Books, Standard Deviants Videos, Pass-Your-Class Guides, and Petersons Practice Exams.

Week One: Begin to read books, review flashcards, watch videos. Call your test center and make an appointment in advance as they sometimes require a few weeks advance notice)

Week Two: Re-read books, review flashcards, watch videos Take 1-2 practice exams

Week Three: Continue to review all materials, take additional/final practice exams. You should be passing these with room to spare. Take real exam at end of the week and PASS.

Note you should have at this point already acquired pre-study-prep materials for your next exam so as not to waste time.

While it never hurts to study for three weeks per exam...I think you could do US History I with one week of study if you worked hard.
I did it in one week and got a 65 Big Grin But I am kind of a History buff.

I would go with Intro to Psych for your 1st CLEP. I'm working on it now and it's pretty straight forward.

Many people, like me, already possess a good deal of common psychology knowledge, which makes those types of tests easier to study for. Other people are history buffs... you get the idea.

Intro to Psych was actually a lot of new knowledge for me in the realm of physiology and famous theorists and other non-practical stuff. I believe I only studied for a week or so, however. Good luck with your exams, and study hard! Use the practice tests!

Intro to Sociology is easier than Intro to Psych -- with some of the information from Sociology being carried over to Psych, which means you can then build on it. Work smarter, not harder.

No comments on History as I have not had to deal with that subject, as far as testing out is concerned.
