Big 3 Class Rings - CLEP101 - 11-07-2009

Has anyone found different Jewelry Companies other than the ones that the Big 3 work with. I don't like the options for the Excelsior rings. Many companies out there don't have Excelsior as a school choice when buying a ring. I think it's probably because it's not a B&M school.

When I bought my EC ring from Jostens they offerred a whole lot more than what is on display on their website today. I would give Jostens a call and let them know what you're looking for, I'm sure they will have it.

Check out the Jostens advertisement on page 48: https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/Publications/Live_and_Learn_Magazine_Spring_Summer_2004.pdf

I am considering my class ring options, too.

I could not see Jostens whole collection because the website made me choose a school first.

I have looked at the selection at ArtCarved:

Welcome to ArtCarved.com

There is one in particular that I like of these. I am not sure where I would buy it, though. I know that JCPenney and Zales sell them.

WalMart has a very similar ring to the one I like. Here is their selection:

Walmart.com: Jewelry: Rings

The ring I like is in the high school category, but I think I can get engraved with Excelsior instead.

I am also considering a purple stone, since it is one of Excelsior's school colors.

I'd like to know more about what others have chosen for their ring.

I decided to go with the following ring company out of El Paso, TX. They were very flexible and you can choose almost any combination for the sides. Very friendly customer service. I chose a degree side and a military side for my ring. They will engrave any school that you graduate from on top. I chose the Oval University College Class Ring, # 1005.

Thank you for posting this link. They do offer the ring I like at a great price. The only problem is that they only allow 7 characters for engraving it and Excelsior has 9 letters.

I also noticed that the same style for the high school ring is $50 less than the college price. I am not sure why.

Thanks again. I am glad to have this to add this to my list of options.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe that only Jostens will be able to use the copyrighted EC Globe logo on both the stone and side of the ring too.

Shoto,
I believe you might be right, but not sure. The ring company I chose will not be using the EC Globe or anything that is Copyrighted, the sides they will be using are more generic and universal. I chose a BSLA for one side and Operation Iraqi Freedom for the other side, since thats where I was when I started my degree. They will only write out the college name on top of the ring. If you look at the examples, "EXCELSIOR COLLEGE" will go where the ring says "YOUR UNIVERSITY".

You should give them a call. They told me they had no problems spelling out "EXCELSIOR COLLEGE" on the ring.

Thank you for the suggestion. I sent an e-mail about the engraving and received a very quick reply that they should be able to accommodate my request to engrave the 9 letters “Excelsior”.

Now I need to get my decisions finalized so I can place an order.

Have you ordered and received your ring, yet? Are you happy with it? Any problems? Would you recommend them?

I looked and they have a good BBB rating.

Has anyone else on the forum used this company (Dunham) for a ring? I would like to know about your experience.

I have been asked about my class ring choice a few times, so I thought I should update this thread. (I believe Excelsior has started offering more ring options since I ordered mine in 2010.)

I did order my ring from Dunham and it is beautiful!

If you need something special at Dunham, just ask now if it is possible. They were very accommodating.

I received excellent customer service. I was allowed to make 2 special requests. The first was to add 2 extra letters to the engraving, so it would have the whole word “Excelsior”. The second was to have block lettering on the outside engraving instead of script. The engraving I chose was “BS MATH” (instead of a year) and “EXCELSIOR” on the outside with my initials on the inside.

For the ring that I wanted, this was the best price that I found while comparison shopping. It was also made very quickly. I received it a little over 3 weeks after it was ordered.

This is the ring I chose - model 55-2007 in fashion:

Warning - I picked silver (least expensive), which I think is sterling silver. From the beginning, I have had the problem that it bruises/scratches very easily, and I am not hard on my rings. A few other forum members were able to get their rings made (or remade) in White Palisil and have been very happy with that material. My ring was not offered in that metal, but I wish it was because that is what I would have chosen. I'm going to wear it and enjoy it, but do not get your ring made in sterling silver.

Also, I chose the purple stone, since it is Excelsior's color. I like it, but it is dark and I wish light showed through a little more.

Overall, I was very happy to have so many choices for designing my ring.

I hope this is helpful! A class ring is a really nice gift to yourself for your hard work in earning a degree!
