Disappointing Day at the Testing Center - Levi - 10-30-2009

Well, Ladies and Gents,

The verdict is in.

I took the new, refreshed version of the DSST Business Math today and.......failed. Got a score of 388. I really underestimated this one (and it probably didn't help that I studied for a grand total of around 7 hours). I wanted to try to pass this one before we leave for vacation in a couple of days and learned a valuable lesson: Always Be Prepared. I had gotten happy-go-lucky and tried to cram too many tests into a short period of time.

It was confusing because I took the Peterson's practice test for the old DSST Business Math and scored over 70%, so I felt very confident going into this test. But I guess DSST really revamped the newer version. It's kind of hard to know how to react to failure, because I'm such a perfectionist.

The proctor was shocked: "I've never seen this side of you before!" he stammered. :p

But it was a good lesson in humility. Rolleyes

Dust yourself off and remember if at first...

We all need a lttle come down once in a while to keep us humble. You know what you did wrong this time just learn from it and get back on that horse.

And all those sayings just mean It is OK, this one mistake does not make you a failure it was just 1 test.

I totally understand your pain! Even though I didn't fail College Math today, I feel like I did. I really, really wanted to get at least above 60. The thing is my son helped me so much with tutoring so it's like I failed him by only getting a 57. I guess it's pride that is getting to me too.

Both you and I need to realize that perfection won't happen in this lifetime. So, put all this testing stuff away for now and have a great vacation! Smile

Wow, you had such a great score in College Math. What tripped you up? Sorry, I also, would feel bad if I failed and with my last 3 exams, that is a very good probability. I went against all good advice and left the hardest for last (College Math, Statistics and Principles of Finance). I am going to take at least 5 weeks to get through Math, then a month for Stats, and the next month, Finance. If I fail any of them, I will have to push graduation back to December from May. Could be tough!

Go on vacation, get refreshed, and hit the books when you get back. You can do it.

I'm sorry to hear that, Levi. I'd scarcely expect for Prometric to make it so much more difficult, but it looks like my expectations were quite wrong! The name "Business Math" doesn't excite me in the least - but then again, little math does. Big Grin Are there many sources of study for it beyond Peterson's?

I hope you don't let this get you down on promptly retaking it in the future. I'm sure with the knowledge you've gained from this experience, you will pass it without issue. Have a good time on vacation!

Oh, pooh, Mom. There's always things that give us trouble. I'm proud of you for not giving up or chickening out right before the test. Remember the first REA test? Big Grin You did fine. And got six college credits to boot.

Hahaha Big Grin Yes sir, gotta be thankful for those humility checks. But I am sorry to hear of your loss, though I'm sure your experience would be a great help to all those who follow your track in taking this refreshed version!

Keep up the great work! Don't get down or slow down! If you need some brainless inspiration, I always listen to "Invincible" by Ok Go. Great test-pre-amp music haha

I've been rolling through exams myself and feeling a little lucky with some of my scores... then came Statistics! After studying for a week, I realized I would need a LOT more study time to pass this test. Unfortunately, that throws my entire schedule off and will likely delay my graduation. Oh well, we'll get there eventually!

Thanks, everybody, for the encouragement and support. Enjoyed hearing from you guys. Smile

I think Margo's words about pride were very true: Yes, aim for excellence, but never expect perfection in this life. Amen!

One positive thing about this is that I never send my scores in advance to my future college. I always click the "DO NOT SEND" button....so I think that means I can send only my best scores when I do finally apply in a few months. There is about a $20 fee to get a transcript from CLEP and Prometric, but it's worth the money.

That is disappointing! Your feedback will still be beneficial to the rest of us. Do your best to forget about this and enjoy your vacation. You deserve a break!
