Passed MacroEconomic (barely) - The_Professor - 10-30-2009

Squeaked by today with a 51…YIKES! I was off my game for most of the exam and am glad to have somehow pulled this one out. I utilized my standard prep strategy of studying approx 10 hours using IC only, coupled with a solid/focused test-taking strategy in the exam room. Still batting 1000!!!

That be MicroE (which I hear is tougher than MacroE), then onto Financial Accounting, then onto the dreaded Money & Banking (yikes :-)

Good luck with all of those tests.

Congrats on the pass! Barely passing gives you the craziest feeling when your score pops up, doesn't it? I was so excited and nearly wet myself at the same time with the 53 I got in US History

I got a 49 on MicroEc. exam. Those are the ones that really hurt, where you just about make it. (But I'm thinking next time I take it, I going to study for more then 3 days, and not take it before I go on vacation) [Kind of cut that one close]

I'm so sorry to hear, that's got to be frustrating. Three days for Microeconomics is really intense though. Way to just jump in there and give it a shot!

Failing with one point is by no means the end all be all, especially when we think about the money we're saving in the first place. Heck, books cost at least $200 per class, not including the class itself. That's 2 1/2 CLEPs right there!

Keep up the good work and enjoy your vacation to relax and diffuse a bit Smile At least now you know more of what to expect for the second go-round; until then, what's next for you?

Yes, MacroE sure gave me a good, cold dose of reality, particularly after passing comfortably a half dozen exams till now using IC only. Since MicroE is supposed to be tougher, I’ve expanded my study strategy in prepping for this one. Found some really good (and free) lectures for both MicroE and MacroE from UC Berkeley:

MacroE:
UC Berkeley Webcasts | Video and Podcasts: Economics 100B

MicroE:
UC Berkeley Webcasts | Video and Podcasts: Econ 100A

Other lectures here as well:
Free Audio Lectures from Top Colleges and Universities

I’m listening to these during my daily commute to leverage my drive time, and I’m also finding these quite refreshing as it gets you into the academic mindset since doing everything online can be somewhat of an isolating and solitary experience. Check ’em out…

Congrats on your pass, it doesn't matter what score you got, as long as you passedSmile

MicroE is definetly harder than Macro.

Great links, iTunes University also has some great video lectures that I used.

One thing that made a world of difference for me was to draw out 5-6 graphs of supply/demand, elasticity, price ceiling/floor (or is it called "cap," can't remember) effects, and a couple other things that I had a hard time understanding and that having a basic graph on hand to SEE it helped a ton. I did a brain dump and drew them out before the test began.
