NEW Excelsior Degree Requirement - MaieJaie - 10-13-2009

I received the following email from Excelsior today, and I wanted to share it with the forum.

"Excelsior College is pleased to announce the launch of a new student orientation and resource.

There is no charge for tuition, it is non-credit bearing, and it is required for undergraduate students enrolled after 9/1/09 unless you have taken CCS 120, CCS 111 or ENG 101N. It is to your advantage to complete the course as early as possible to ensure that you know all about the resources, services and offices available to help you be a successful Excelsior College student.

NOTE: All enrolled students regardless of enrollment date have access to this course and can access it any point while enrolled at the college so you can take advantage of this valuable resource at any time.

CCS 100: EC Student Experience is designed to be a 5-6 hour course with a 2-3 hour required section highlighting services and resources to help answer questions you may have about getting started in your academic program. If you are required to take an alternate orientation course you will be notified. To access this course, please login to MyEC and click on My Online Courses and Learning Aids.

Get started today!"

Well, if EC's going to add a new requirement, at least it's for no tuition cost! This doesn't sound too bad, since it's a free course. Nevertheless, I wanted to make sure everyone's aware that those who have enrolled September 2009 or later--or who intend to enroll in the future--at Excelsior, there will be a new non-credit degree requirement...for no tuition cost. FYI.

This actually showed up in my online courses about a month ago. It does have a required quiz. It took me less than an hour to completely review the material and take the quiz. So unless they added more info it won't take very long to complete. I took their info literacy class so this was a lot of review. It seems to focus more on the degree requirements for the various schools and the different school depts and their functions.

Thank you both for the heads up!
