Dear Business Law Victor,
I'm a graduating senior at University of Texas San Antonio. I need to pass a business law CLEP to Graduate this December. I've failed it twice. I failed in Nov of 2008 with a 41 and May 25th with a score of 48. (It sucked)
I've passed the following CLEPS
(ish represents I can't really remember without checking my CLEP transcript)
American History I and II - 54, 56ish
Analyzing and Interpreting Lit - 59 or 58
Information system (6 credits) - 62
Spanish (8 credits) -54
College Algebra -52
Western Civilization II - 56ish
Principals of Management - 60ish (easiest CLEP available)
Principals of Marketing - 60ish (easiest CLEP available)
I've gotten around 35 Credit hours doing CLEPS. So I'm not new. I'm not even new to the Business Law CLEP I've taken it twice. I had three books I read for the test. The REA Intro Business Law book, I bought the 40 or 50 question CLEP study guide, I used Pearson's b/c they are free with my school tuition they had 3 hundred question tests, and this other book called CLEP Intro Business Law by Comex systems inc. I read them through completely and memorized the questions. Around 600....
I'm not exaggerating at all. I've never failed any other CLEP before only this one. My second time I wasn't about to fail again and I did. I could quote my books, but I was unsure of some of the CLEP questions. My other study materials only talked about Tort and Contracts, Commercial Code, and Criminal. I didnât directly know the answers; I tried the process of elimination. I honestly thought I was going to kick tale, but it failed it by 2 points.
What success have you had using this website??

Wow...maybe you got some really screwy tests??
I used Barron's Business Law for both the lower and upper level exams. I've been hawking this book on everyone who asks ever since. I used the outline on Collegeboard's website to guide my study. I don't know what else to tell you; I probably studied the hardest for Business Law out of every test I took, but I also enjoyed the material so that made it easier. Anyway, give Barron's a try. If you know the material in that book, I can't imagine any way you could fail. Good luck.

I found the REA practice book and CD to be very useful on Business Law I and used Barron's for Business Law II.

That's it; I think it's all about understanding the concepts. I used REA, Comex Systems, and Pearsonâs (which was only tests) the most. Failing was a pretty bad blow to my ego and it was so frustrating. I read all these books, memorized all this material and felt more prepared and confident than any other CLEPs I've taken. I really studied for it. I actually finished the test 15 minutes early, submitted the score and could not believe I was 2 points shyâ¦
Iâm making it a point to use more material this time around. Spend the entire 90 mins even if it means going back through the whole test.
I might try Barronâs if it worked so well for you.

I passed business law with a 66 about a month ago. I had a really short time to study and I found really helpful videos on youtube by a professor in a community college. Here's a link to one of them YouTube - Chapter 7 - Business Law
You can watch other chapters as well. I loved the videos because I didn't have to concentrate as much as I did for reading the Baron book (of which I barely made a dent in). I did have previous knowledge of business law from a class I took a couple of years ago, but the videos covered most of the same material.

Firstly, I admire your efforts to stick with this despite your setbacks. That is half the battle.
I successfully completed both Business Law 1 and 2. They are two very different animals. I found Bus Law 2 to be quite tough, wide and deep. The Barron's book was critical for this test however I can see how it might be easy to get lost in all information. For Bus Law 1, I'd suggest using the small green book put out by REA called Essentials. You can easily read Bus Law 1 and 2 in a few days and I would suggest you read both. I'd also suggest using Pass Your Class. Although it is apparently offered as a study guide for the Bus Law 2 DSST exam, I found it quite useful for the CLEP exam.
As other's have mentioned, check out the Standard Deviants business law video. Dorky as hell, but it will give you the edge.

I'm a Canadian so a lot of the statutory and constitutional law they refer to on CLEP's Business Law and DSST's Business Law II exams was foreign to me, but I was still able to pass both exams based on knowing enough about the English common law.
If you want to know about the common law, buy or borrow the "Sum & Substance" audio lecture series on CD for torts, contracts, and crimes. A lot of the exam is based on practical examples, and the CDs can help you a lot in analyzing those examples. These CDs are a favourite of first-year law students in the USA and other common law countries.
Learn the definitions of the many different Latin legal terms like stare decisis, certiorari, caveat emptor, mandamus, habeas corpus, etc.
Know a bit about the Constitution and amendments to it.
Study some of the rules about transactions under the Uniform Commercial Code and the different kinds of bankruptcy.
That's about it if you want to pass. If you learn all of these things and also study negotiable instruments and real property, you should also be able to pass the DSST Business Law II exam.
