Ladies and Gentlemen,

I just submitted my paperwork via VONAPP and I've sent in a copy of my DD-214. I would appreciate it if anyone else who is using the post 9/11 gi bill would chime in and give me an idea of what to expect going from here. I've applied to TESC and am kind of in limbo until uncle sam gets his acto together and pays TESC.

All I know is they're taking forever. I applied for the traditional MGIB like 7 weeks ago at least, and I'm still waiting.

You have to call them constant and keep checking or the waiting will continue like that room where the people went in Beetlejuice.

I noticed that my wait times for chapter 30 benefits increased when I changed regional processing offices. When my RPO was Atlanta, my enrollments seemed to only take about 3 weeks to post in WAVE. Now that my RPO is Buffalo, it seems to take almost 2 months.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Chapter 33 is taking so long too. At least the money goes directly to the school, though. I guess it is still a pain to have to wait for the BAH, especially if you're using it to live off of!

So in other words I should expect to wait awhile and I should hound them non-stop.

My Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chap 33) benefits approval took approx 5 wks, and I sent them out right near the start date of the program. If the school has a VA rep, use them. You obviously don't have to pay school up front. The VA pays, but you have to wait until you get the approval. Be advised some of the VA reps are still confused about some aspects of this program. For example, mine thought that as long as you take (1) class per semester physically at your school, and you are attending more than half-time via distance, you receive the BAS the whole time. This is not the case. You only get the BAS as long as you physically attend the school (and you must attend more than half-time). There was a lot of confusion w/this. As for my school being paid, I don't believe that has happened yet.

Figures. How did you contact them? Their all-purpose toll-free number isn't much help.

Bump. I tried their FAQ website to "send them an email", as they call it. They're supposed to get back to me within 5 days, and it's been a week.

Just spoke with the fine folks at the GI Bill hotline again this morning. I'm on week 14 of waiting for my letter of eligibility. They told me this time that Buffalo is 16 weeks behind on claims. She almost told me that there was nothing I could do, caught herself, then told me that perhaps my claim was on the back burner because they did not have an enrollment certification from Excelsior yet. "Wait, what?" I said. She says it would 'kick them into action' maybe if I had Excelsior send my enrollment certification now instead of later when I actually put in a claim for money. "That would have been nice to know," I say silently to myself.

I call Excelsior directly, and they proceed to tell me, "Why yes! You should have put in your claim for reimbursement with us when you initially applied for the GI Bill." "That would also have been nice to know," I say not so silently this time. Excelsior did not tell me this when I called them several months ago about this very thing.

I'm posting this both to rant, and as a helpful tip to anyone using the GI Bill through Excelsior. Now I wait some more, as week 14 slowly transitions to 15.

I submitted my Form 22-1990 back in May and recieved a certificate of eligibilty. My school verified my enrollment status on july 9th. After weeks of calling and being told they had all required documets and the system was down, and various other excuses i was finally told they had no record of me applying for VA benifits. I just faxed all the saved forms i submitted and was told my record have been sent to two different offices ( Buffalo and Muskogee, OK) so after 6 months my processing has started 8 weeks into my term.
