Some New York-specific cert. questions - Worthington's Law - 09-03-2009

Hey everyone,
I'm new here and hoping some of you well-informed teachers can help me out. I'm working towards NYS 7-12 English certification and an adviser told me today that the oft-discussed Literacy Instruction in the Elementary School exam thorugh Excelsior could be used towards my certification (even though I'm going for adolescent ed, which seemed weird). That leaves me with 18 credits to get and eleven months to get them in.

I know Excelsior is a popular choice here, but I don't need a full Master's program (I already have an MA from Brooklyn College in my subject area). I basically need eighteen easy and cheap NYS-accepted credits, if that's at all possible. I've looked at a couple of CLEP classes (Human Growth and Development, for instance) but I'm not sure they fulfill NYS requirements.

If anyone has any experience going through the NYS individual pathway to certification, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Patrick
