Help! - masonkiller - 08-24-2009 I'm a high school student in a TERRIBLE Spanish class and I have a large interest in learning Mandarin Chinese, I have many different tools to learn it. Can I test out of language classes if I teach myself Mandarin to some extent? Help! - nj593 - 08-24-2009 masonkiller Wrote:I'm a high school student in a TERRIBLE Spanish class and I have a large interest in learning Mandarin Chinese, I have many different tools to learn it. Help! - masonkiller - 08-24-2009 I want to get into a University (Tulsa to be exact), and every counselor I've talked to says how two years of a language class are required to get into one. Check with the university you are interested in to see if they will accept your CLEPping out of Spanish (or any other language). Then get to work on your own, if necessary purchase tapes, Rosetta stone, etc. Check into your local community adult schools (night) some of them are using Rosetta Stone already. Get to studying their grammar, etc. If you are willing to work hard enough, you can do this! Then take the CLEP and get as many as 12 credits depending on how high a grade you get and whether your college will recognize it. Sorry! Help! - JanusthePhoenix - 08-24-2009 Ick...Mandarin wouldn't be my first choice. I'll second the Rosetta Stone though, if you can find a sweet deal or borrow it from someone/someplace. Dunno if I'd pay for it, but then again I'm a starving college student veteran. ![]() Help! - Jason86 - 08-25-2009 masonkiller, The 1st page of this link says Tulsa requires 2 semesters (not years) of HS foreign language. On the 2nd page it says they accept Clep on an individually determined basis. College Search - University of Tulsa - TU - Admission But be sure to check Tulsa's website for the most reliable information on clep acceptance and HS foreign language requirement. Class standing, GPA and SAT are usually very important in admissions also. Good luck! Help! - creationstory - 08-25-2009 The NYU Foreign Language exams have a few versions - 16 credits and 12 credits and both will be a combination of Upper Level and Lower Level. For the language exams, a score of 1-12 will earn students that same number of lower-level credits. Scores of 13-16 will earn students 12 lower-level and 1 to 4 upper-level credits. These examinations fulfill requirements in Humanities, World Language and Literature concentration in the Liberal Arts, and the language requirements for the International Business concentration in Business. Register with that college, have the cleps scores sent to them, take one or two other courses, or online course. Make sure Tulsa accepts their transfer first, then transfer the credits over?? Can anyone else comment on this process as I'm still in the learning phase here on how to maneuver through this system. Judy |
