Like many on this board, I have to take Productions/Operations Management for my EC Business degree, and I was looking for the most economical route that would give me a letter grade. While the CSU Pueblo option is a fairly popular option, their fee hike made it a lot less appealing to me.

I just found out that TUI University (regionally accredited it seems by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges) offers on rolling enrollment a 4 credit Intro to Operations Management (OPM 300) for $250 for California residents and $295 for non-residents. They also offer a more advanced Operations Management for Managers course (OPM 500), also 4 credits, for $250 for CA residents and $345 for non-residents. Both courses are offered on CD.

Course description for the Intro to Ops Management: "The purpose of this course is to identify issues related to the creation of an organization’s goods and services. Students will study issues such as productivity, quality management, comparing service and manufacturing operations, just-in-time systems, capacity planning, scheduling, and inventory management and control and their relationship to other business functions like marketing, human resource management, accounting, and finance."

Course description for Ops Management for Managers: "Students in this course will learn operations and production management tools for manufacturing and service organizations. Topics covered include quality management and continuous improvement, productivity, capacity planning, acceptance sampling, forecasting, and materials requirements planning and their relationship to other business functions like marketing, human resource management, accounting, and finance."

I'm thinking that possibly the Intro course will satisfy EC's requirements (not sure of course, but EC's business catalog says that comparable courses could include an introductory class.)

This is about all I know but I'll be looking into it seriously, so just putting this out there for you folks. If anyone has taken this course or is familiar with this institution, I'd appreciate any feedback offered.

Thanks!
Helen

Ok, I went to their site and that cost is per credit hour.

from the TUI website :TUI University has three core academic levels, each with their own tuition and fee structure:

Bachelor's Level

* The tuition is US $295 per semester credit hour for the Bachelor's program (100, 200, 300, and 400 level courses).

* TUI courses are four (4) semester credits costing US $1,180 per course.

Ouch! Well, there goes that idea...

Sorry for not checking thoroughly beforehand. I guess I was too eager to find a cheaper alternative. Thanks for looking into it!

I don't know about LSU, It does look appealing but I know the CSU Pueblo course has no proctored exams.

The instructor grades quickly and most people here get an "A" for a letter grade.

This post has enlightened me as well. I guess I didn't read ECs tuition rates as carefully as I thought. I was planning on taking BUS425 through excelsior. I didn't figure that $310 was too much to pay, however, now I can see that its $310 per credit. That changes the cost/value ratio considerably. So CSU Pueblo... here I come!!!

I enrolled in the LSU Operations Management course, ordered the book, took a look at the lesson format (around 15-18 lessons), proctored tests etc....and promptly decided to study and take the TECEP, which I barely passed. I would highly recommend the CSU course based on the overwhelming amount of positive experiences. This is a course that you don't want to mess around with. Go with the proven method, even if it is a little more expensive. It will save you plenty of time and grief in the long run.
