About to set sail. - McNulty_CM - 07-27-2009 Over the last 4 weeks, I have started my journey towards my degree. To date I have taken four of the six credit CLEP exams and done pretty well, thanks to all of the helpful advice here and the InstaCert flash cards. My initial plan was to use CLEP and DSST as a supplement to the traditional path that I had set myself upon. However, it has been made clear to me that my degree is much closer than I first anticipated. My journey started as an expedition around the perimeter of a large lake. I was at the water's edge and my degree awaited me on the opposite shore. The hike around the perimeter was to take me some time, 2-3 years on first estimation. I have since seen many fine scholars blaze a new path to that distant shore. They have used the boats made available to them through Distance Learning. This concept, once foreign to me, has inspired me and I am about to set sail ACROSS the lake to reap my reward. My concern is that I am by, by no means, an experienced seadog. I have a Ship in which to set sail, though I do not know how seaworthy the vessel is. My hope is that with these 4 weeks of watching ships sail across, I have learned enough to make the voyage as well. I have attached to this post the outline (my vessel) of classes and exams that will get me across. If you have time, and know what is needed to make the journey, please take a look and let me know if there is anything I have overlooked in my plan. Thanks, in advance, and I'll see you on the distant shore. P.S. LatinTea, I did spellcheck the post before I submitted it.
About to set sail. - marianne202 - 07-27-2009 Congrats on your decision to brave the high seas of distance learning and embrace the wind in your sails! There are a lot of us around here that were going to take the long way around, but found an easier, more fulfilling journey to be had by the call of the seas. I love your analogy...can you tell! I think you will find that this way is more thrilling than the traditional long way. Use this forum as your lighthouse and beacon to light the way, and provide shelter when you are lost and you will be successful in no time! Welcome to the forum and I look forward to your post announcing land ahoy! About to set sail. - LatinTea - 07-27-2009 McNulty_CM Wrote:P.S. LatinTea, I did spellcheck the post before I submitted it. Blow the spelling to the wind. That was one beautifully moving narrative and no spelling error could take away from its impact. Maybe you should think about an English degree to go along with the Business one. I am so glad you will be here to share your passage to the other side.
About to set sail. - bawhitsett - 07-27-2009 Hey McNulty, might wanna check if EC will accept the MGMT 311 Ops and Quality Mgt from Colorado State - Pueblo (or a similar course from another school) vs. doing it through them. Would save a few hundred bucks... Colorado State University-Pueblo > Division of Continuing Education > Independent Study > Management About to set sail. - McNulty_CM - 07-28-2009 Brian, does Colorado State have any application process, or do you jsut sign up and take the class? I have not had time to do the research yet. The really good thing about my situation is that my company has a tuition reimbursment program, so any costs are only temporary... as long as I pass them, so I might just go with EC for simplicity anyway. Yeoman are the guys on board ship who screw up your pay and your personnel records hilarious. About to set sail. - McNulty_CM - 07-28-2009 94Steve... If someone else is paying for it, screw it, go any way you like :p . I took most of my IT courses at Excelsior with tuition reimbursement and they weren't hard at all... |
