hello with some questions =] - Blue - 09-18-2006 hi everyone! my name's jenny and i'm new to this forum as well as to the CLEP exams. i plan to take at least two CLEP exams so i spent the last hour or so reading about how everyone's been preparing. i must say, finding this forum has reduced my stress level by a bit purely b/c i had no idea how to study for them nor what to expect from them. so since you guys are all pros at taking these exams, can this noob ask you guys for some help? hehe. i'm definitely taking Principles of Management and Information Systems and Computer Applications. from all the advices from the board, i've come up with a study plan and if anyone has the time to take a look at it, can you please tell me if it's okie or needs more material? (keep in mind that i don't know anything about either subject) 1) i already bought the big blue college board clep book (18th ed). i also plan to sign up for instantcert.com for all of the exams. 2) Principles of Management: in addition to #1, i'm going to buy the white Comex review book as well as a textbook from barron's that's been said to work well as a study guide for the clep exam. 3) Info Sys and Comp App: i've been having a hard time finding materials for this exam. i'm planning to buy a textbook from a college bookstore but am not too sure which one to get so i'm just going to compare the table of contents to the list of what the clep is gonna compose of. does anyone have any textbook suggestions? 4) i'm thinking about taking a history clep exam for my 3rd exam. i haven't touched any kind of history for 5 years now so i hardly remember anything. :o haha. which history clep exam is the easiest to study for (if there are any)? sorry for the abundance of questions but hopefully you guys can pass your clep wisdom to this noob. i need to get my studying started so i'm gonna check out books tomorrow. thanks for reading this massive message! :p hello with some questions =] - snazzlefrag - 09-18-2006 Hi Jenny, Welcome to the board! I'm glad to see you are ready to dive in to your first couple of exams. hilarious You're going to do great! To be honest with you, I doubt you will need a textbook for either of these two exams. I found the Instantcert material to be an excellent resource, and more than enough to pass both exams, with room to spare. COMEX Principles of Management was also a great resource. I used COMEX and IC to pass CLEP Management, and just IC to pass CLEP Info Sys. However, if you will feel more confident using a textbook then, by all means, go ahead and do whatever you need to do. The important thing is that you pass, right? But I do think most members here would agree, these two exams tend towards the easier end of the spectrum and, if you study Instancert well, you shouldn't have much difficulty passing them. All my history credits were earned via DANTES, so I can't make any recommendations about which CLEP history to take first. I'm sure somebody else will answer that question for you. Best of luck to you, and please speak up if you have any other questions. Welcome again, Snazzlefrag hello with some questions =] - ShotoJuku - 09-18-2006 [SIZE="3"][COLOR="Navy"]Hi Jenny - Welcome to the IC-Forums! Just to add to what Snazz stated, here is a listing of books/video sources that are often found helpful in exam prep: REA books Comex books Rudman books Pass-Your-Class book/guides Standard Deviant Videos (The above can all be found on amazon, ebay, or their own website). -and- Petersons online practice exams - http://www.petersons.com Of course you can always trust and rely on the InstantCert Flashcards as they are second to none in your clep/dantes/ece prep. GOOD LUCK!! I'm a newbie myself, so all I can say is listen to the pro's. Good luck! hello with some questions =] - Blue - 09-18-2006 thanks so much for all of your responses (and for all the welcomes)! =] i've been checking this forum like a madman haha. i just ordered my books and signed up for IC so i'm going through the flashcards for the first time. given that i'm on the same level for both subjects, which one do you think is easier (so i can just get out of the way first)? management or info systems/comp app? i know both are supposedly easy but since this will be my first exam, i don't want to underestimate anything. thanks again!!! =] hello with some questions =] - sgloer - 09-21-2006 I would say go for Management first; it's probably one of the easiest CLEP exams out there, especially if you have real world work experience. hello with some questions =] - lillyfire3 - 09-21-2006 Hi Jenny, I have just finished American History 1 and 2. I used the instantcert site along with the Petersons practice tests. I passed both tests studying a couple of days for each. I had no prior American History courses as I am from Ireland and I was able to pass both tests. Having said that the American History II was much easier than American History I. With some revision these tests should be easy enough for you. Look at it this way, it is just torture for a couple of days but you get 3 credits out of it and you won't have to take a course in History. I say go for it!! hello with some questions =] - Blue - 09-24-2006 i know this might sound weird but... is it just me or do the IC questions for management seem easier than the ones in the collegeboard CLEP book? so i've studied and memorized half of the IC management questions so far and i decided to take a quick practice test in the CLEP book to see where i am. but when i went to the book, the questions seemed harder despite me actually knowing the terms though. am i doing something wrong? i'm starting to get worried even though everyone says this is one of the easiest exams out there haha >.< |
