tips - okiemom - 05-03-2009 Do you tip? Where and how much. With me, 10% for mediocre serve, 15% for good service and at least 20% for above average service. I'll tip waitstaff, bartenders, tail techs, estheticians, hair stylists, dog groomers, bellhops, and the guy at the full service gas station. The grocery store I shop at doesn't allow tipping so that's not an issue. We live in the country meaning no pizza delivery, so that's out. I won't tip counter help. I definitely won't tip Sonic car hops. I know some people do tip at Sonic but to me, that would be like tippng at a McDonalds drive through. No housekeeper for us, no lawn care service, no taxis used. tips - MISin08 - 05-03-2009 On the West Coast & Sun Belt (most of where I travel) it seems like 20% is becoming the norm, which in a way is too bad, cuz I'm not going higher, no matter what you do hilarious . Bad service -- whatever pocket change I have. Travel-related: I tip everyone who helps (especially if it's my employer's dime; they have guidelines on %), though over-attentiveness is a turn-off and I usually try to avoid having anyone carry my bags, and restroom attendants -- that's just creepy. No dog. (I'll tip you 50% to get rid of my neighbor's little yappy.) My hair guy charges enough that I don't need to tip him. Pizza delivery -- sure. Anything take-out, no. Gas station -- that's new. Here in Oregon it's the law that they have to pump your gas, but the only full-service is Chevron, and I don't think they'd take a tip. That usually will get you at or just above 15%. I'm a big sucker when I know the person too, they get the best tips from me. Also, gotta tip the Poker Dealers in Atlantic City every hand you win! |
