Passed 2 CLEPS, but have question... - selivingston - 05-01-2009

First of all, thanks to all the wonderful members here! I took my two CLEP exams on 04/16/2009 back to back.

I posted a while back and asked which CLEP to take for history. I had to take Principles of Management and quite a few members recommended U. S. History 1, so off studying I went. I studied REA U. S. History I and some Instacert. I then went out to get Sparknotes - U. S. History. I studied for about 2 1/2 weeks on this one, in between taking two other courses, working full-time and being a mom to three (teenagers are very trying as I am sure many of you know!). I ended up passing with a 61 (minimum score is 50 at Liberty). Thanks so much to everyone who recommended this one as the easiest of the History CLEP exams. It was tough though!!

I didn't put too much effort into the Principles of Management. I probably studied Instacert for about 8 hours and read just a bit of the REA regarding theories, etc. I ended up with a 64 (minimum score is 53 at Liberty) on this one, which is fine with me because it is a pass!!!!

To make a long story short, I needed these two courses because Liberty University goofed and accepted me into the Masters of Accounting Graduate Program early -- for the Summer session which begins on 5/11/2009. Normally their policy is no CLEP exams are permitted in a students final semester (before graduating with your undergraduate degree) so I inquired about dual enrollment--which it turned out that after they learned I was interested in completing my degree requirements with CLEP, they gave me special permission. They assured me that they post the scores rather quickly, but I am beginning to run out of time. If my CLEP scores do not post by the time I am supposed to be graduating, then I will be dropped from my graduate courses and lose my Financial Aid for the term. I realize that the time your school takes to post your scores varies, but how long does it generally take for scores to be sent and show up on transcripts?

Then there is another issue. The testing center I took the CLEP examinations at (Virginia Commonwealth University - Richmond) did not accept credit cards, only checks (possibly money orders--cannot remember). So, I had to write 2 checks to College Level Examination Program. Well, these have not cleared my bank yet. It has already been 2 weeks and 1 day. Has anyone had this problem before (with check taking a while to clear) and does it slow the scores being submitted to your institution?

I am so sorry about the long post, but I have looked tirelessly on the internet for answers and have yet to find anything regarding these types of circumstances. Your advice and answers are greatly appreciated!!!!

When you took the CLEP's did you put Liberty's school code in as the receiving school for your test results?

Get on the phone and call CLEP, verify that they have a record, pay the $20 for a new transcript and have them immediately send it on to Liberty.
CLEP: Receiving, Sending, and Canceling CLEP Scores

Then call Liberty and tell the registrar to be on the lookout for your CLEP transcript and ask them to contact you the minute comes in.

I would not worry too much about the checks taking too long to clear. That is just sloppy accounting at the school. Remember, a school is a cost-plus organization, so leaving checks uncashed and other neglect can be made up for with raised tuition rates.

I have heard that the CLEP average is around two weeks. I would try calling Clep every couple of days to find out when the grades were shipped, then call the school every day asking for them to process them.

My daughter missed countless Army tuition payments for the same exact reason.

I must say that EC is excellent at posting a "received transcript" message as soon as it hits them.

I appreciate the quick responses! My nerves have about had enough already....

I have looked back on my printouts from each test and Liberty University and their code is listed as the designated institution on both. One thing is bothering me though, my social security number is not on the printout---I hope it's not time to panic.

I have already emailed my academic adviser yesterday regarding the length of time it takes for my scores to post, but I haven't heard back from her yet.

I shot an email to CLEP, from their website earlier today, but I got an automatic reply stating that it takes two business days for a response. I did include my social security number, address, etc. there.

I think it's about time to make phone calls. I tried the telephone number for CLEP and they are not available again until Monday (8:00 - 6:00), however Liberty is open during a portion of the day tomorrow. I guess I will start there.

I will keep you posted on the events. What in the world am I going to do about the social security number? Both printouts are like this. I feel very ill now......

SSN is not printed on your papers for confidentiality reasons. Mine shows a partially obscured one. If you took your test online you were asked to enter it at the start of the test.

FORGET emails, they are USELESS in these situations!
Make phonecalls instead.

I would just forget about this for the weekend, unless you can get through on sat, and make your calls on monday morning. Try to find someone at Clep that understands your dire situation and is willing to help.

You need to make one good friend at your school, and one at CLEP to ensure that this happens. Tell them about your financial ruin and some other disaster if you must.

Meanwhile, have a beer or two if you can and relax.

Hey I know how you feel. I had sat over the christmas period queitly trying to predict the day the late turnover would post to my school and appear on my transcripts. Then the tests were there and that was that.

I took 2 tests on the 15th and my school received them shortly thereafter as I took online versions.

In any manner I am quite sure your attention to detail will correct any error that might emerge.

All the Best.
